The cars are testing at VIR tomorrow and Wednesday, open to public. Anyone going? I hate Nascar, but it could be fun to watch those things go.

Before y'all poo-poo NASCAR, check out the #7 Robby Gordon Dodge at VIR today. Ferrari driver and F1 World Drivers Champion Kimi Raikkonen is in it!

Robby Gordon returns in the car tomorrow.

I hated NASCAR until I went to the Coca-Cola 600 last year. It was awesome. Granted I still prefer F1...but it was fun.

And Karl, I would so go watch pigs fly.

Wow! Are they on the full course? How good are the brakes on those cars? Damn, it must be interesting pulling the rip cord as they enter T14. Very interesting. I'd pay to see that.

brakes in nascar are as good as known to man short of full on carbon on carbon. short of carbon industrie, the best names in rotors, calipers and friction materials have worked to stop the fast ones!!

i assure you that they are tested at martinsville!!

The brakes on a cup car are incredible, really really good, problem is, they have a TON(make that two tons) of weight to slow down. Doesn't play out very well, they have to go a bit easy on them to keep from roasting them.

Some of those guys in NASCAR know how to turn both left and right, I go head to head against a few of them in karts every now and then. Some only turn left, some really know how to drive.

This was the reason for my question. I'm sure ProCoach knows the length down to the inch, but the back straight at VIR is l-o-n-g. At the end there is a small hill, following by a hard right that you dumps you into a roller coaster. Running wide at the top of turn in is NOT an option. So how fast were these bad boys going? It must have been a sight.

I watched some yesterday. They were running the North coarse only. Man, those things have tons of power, watching them accelerating in a straight line with the tail wagging is impressive. I'm also surprised at the grip they have, not sure if they give up much to the Daytona prototypes in the curves by the eyeball. But, they are tail happy coming out of a curve as the guys are getting on the power. Just wish the paddock had been open.

it's actually the long fast straight that allows for the brakes to cool and in turn stop so well.

it is actually the martinsville type trak where repeated hard braking zones w/ little cooling before the next braking zone, is where these cars have trouble. they can see nearly 2000 degs f @ the interface!!!!

Must have been cool to watch. Were they testing or racing?

I'm not one of those who bash NASCAR. I don't watch it much. But as my Skippy instructor said, "If you want to see driving, watch F1. If you want to see racing, tune in NASCAR."

They were testing, but going pretty hard. One car, forget which, spun into turn 4.

I had a pick-up truck come up behind me at VIR while on track in the NSX. A #$@%! pick-up truck! He blew by me like I was standing still and I realized it was a Craftsman Series racer. I got a good laugh when I realized what it was, but he was gone, baby, gone in a big hurry.
