I watched the Miata cup , the Porsche cup and the Lamborghini trofeo on YouTube from RA this weekend. I should of gone to see it
Well, that was chaotic. When I heard "street course", I was a bit surprised. Nashville does have a speedway (that NASCAR used). But city-maintained streets are fairly notorious, in these parts. At least they "fixed" most of the potholes. Now Indycar has its own version of Monaco -- including the chance for cars to dive into water. Not exactly a "race" course for modern cars. (More of a "parade" course. More red and yellow than green.) Power was gorilla driving, out there. Tons of penalties. Some of the regs are incompatible with driving in a broom closet. Have to agree: Surprising that they approved this course. The selling point must have been the parties after the race. (Since the speedway is further from downtown.) (Wait 'till Indy finds out weed is still illegal in TN. ) (Although I'd guess Nashville isn't enforcing that -- when the state isn't looking.)
IndyCar ran the Nashville speedway for a few years too, back in the bad old days this race was brilliantly promoted, huge crowds and lots of buzz, a few changes to the layout and an earlier start time and it could live up to the hype. but Monaco it ain’t.
It lacks the glamour and film stars. But it's got the narrow track with poor visibility, hard barriers, and water hazards. And it has C&W stars and parties.
The usual IndyCar street circuit yellow flag sh*t show. How was this not foreseeable? IndyCar needs a reboot or at least re-think street circuits.
After the Indianapolis 500 and Helio's brilliant win, Indy Car seemed to have been poised to return to CART level of interest and prestige. After that debacle in Nashville (last night), Indy Car's cause has been set back 8-10 years. Mickey Mouse circuit with so many bumps, it made Sebring look like a billiard table smooth by comparison. Had the chance to go, glad I didn't now. BHW
Yeah. I'm as big of an IndyCar cheerleader you'll find here. But, yesterday's debacle in Nashville was embarrassing. As other's have mentioned, how does such a circuit get approved? Still, some good events coming up with a tight Championship to keep up the interest. They finish up starting with the oval at Gateway. Then it's out to the west coast for Portland, Laguna Seca and the grand finale at Long Beach. All well proven circuits.
Well I was in bed during the race as I had to wake up early and it started at midnight my time however, with the benefit of not having had to go through the whole race the accounts of it are great and it certainly have lots of action. Congrats to Marcus, what a race though he hit the wrong Frenchman;-) Poor Herta will kick himself all week but he deserves to be in F1 (after a haircut). What was the water problem on track? Will watch highlights after my holiday.
