So, she waited 4 hours, against the advice of others, before seeking help and this was very treatable? Such a shame.
Also, Mark Donahue's accident in '74 in Austria. Mark was coherent after his accident, and Mario even spoke with him. Dead within a few hours, possibly due to the helicopter ride and change in altitude(?).
I heard on the news this morning that the law makers in Quebec are thinking about making helmets maditory on the bunny slopes. Seems like a bit of overkill for what seems liek a freak accident.
Very sad. Condolences. She was very beautiful. How long til CSI Wherever does a murder mystery based on this incident? RMX
a lot of CA slopes are going this way, especially for the younguns. Everytime I see a youngster on a bike, wearing a helmet I think "GREAT going parents" ... then I see the parents smiling next to them helmetless and think "BAD parent, what an example is that!!" I wear a helmet now on a bike and on the slopes, which I first started doing several years ago when into snowboarding: The crazies out there were the reason and me taking more chances. I've been a SCUBA diver since 13, over 40 years. I remember the days when we saw our first BCD...man we just laughed at the guys and said 'what dudes'.... wouldn't even think of diving any more without properly tested BCD or a good computer......not just getting older/wiser, it just makes sense... better to enjoy than make work of it. How does this relate to Helicopters: try diving in Mexico for days, flying home on a plane and calculating all the care using old fashioned sliderule....Computers do have value. Since going that way anyway....Reminds me of when in High School, making extra money delivering hospital beds, O2 machines, suction machines and all manner of diapers to mostly brain-damaged motorcycle riders [who's girlfriends/wives would leave them to the State to take care of within 6 months].... man was I glad to see helmet laws enacted.....If one wants to toast themselves, then sign a relase/waiver and leave us out of the equation...that is, no care, DNR orders and let it go. rik
I feel really sad for her family. I never wear a helmet skiing, and I have taken many similar falls. I would not think of going to the ER unless I was slurring speech or some other obvious problem. She was a really good actress and one of the few actress families that seemed to be happy. I really wish there was some protection for these families from the intrusive paparazzi when they really want some privacy. I would never buy one of those sensationalist rags just as a protest for the way that they get their photos. BT
