I have a lot of respect for NA cars. It is soooooo easy to bolt on a turbo, supercharger or nitrous and claim high horsepower numbers. On the other hand, it takes a lot of engineering to create a high HP NA engine (unless of course you go the "brute force" way, huge displacement).
With that in mind, I thought I would create a thread for the high end NA cars to compare and contrast.
Here's a good one: Name the top 5 or the top 10 fastest/quickest NA cars available today. This cuts out many top cars right now, such as the Veyron, S7 Twin Turbo, ALL the tuner cars (they simply bolt on forced induction), etc.

First off, I'd like to say I prefer forced induction for big numbers, because it is the most reliable means of increased performance.

    Here's my list...

    -Viper SRT10

    -Corvette Z06

    -Ferrari Enzo

    -Lamborghini LP640

    -SLR McLaren

I think the SLR Mclaren is a supercharged V8

    1/Viper

    2/ZO6 Vette

3/Enzo Ferrari and most other Ferraris (F40 is the only one I can think of thats not)

    4/Carrera GT

    5/pretty much all Lamborghini's I think

Even though the Mclaren F1's engine is one of the most impressive and specificly designed for the F1, it was still a BMW engine so I arguably dont think it counts in this category.

Everyone things its soooo easy to bolt on a turbo kit, however there is a ton of enginering that goes into building a good turbo kit... The right internals, turbo size, reading compressor maps, etc...

I haven't seen this yet and I'm not going to name a car, but rather the engine. The new Mercedes-Benz AMG 32-valve 6203cc V8. On the E63 it's comes in at 507hp and 465 lbft.

exactly! becouse if it's "sooooo easy" then why isn't on every single engine? i spend roughly 140hrs of R&D before a single piece is machined. it's quite a bit of work and then you have the reliability end of the game, the stress increase on the internals means more engineering to keep it all together. also large displacement isn't sloppy or cheating, keeping 502+ci together at 7k takes alot of skill for the builder.

besides apples and oranges, NA vs FI. they may not be the fastest cars around but the FSI engines audi is now using is some really neat tech.

I would like to see these NA bhp numbers in production cars soon.

    Straight-12 Diesel NA
HP: 108,920 hp at 102 rpm.
    Torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm

All though I like NA cars you can't just bolt on a turbo or Supercharger. Cars with turbos and superchargers take a lot of enginering.
