Gents, AlexD, Alfonso, and myself would like to invite you to this extraordinary event. The highway scenes in "Matrix Reloaded" were filmed here! The rest of this post is from Alfonso: Recently, we've had some great weather -- if it hold up, we will have a wonderful opportunity to saddle up our bulls and horses, so they can stretch their legs, clear their throats, and go balls out with them with our skulls on fire on a military jet runway. Race Cars -- Not Dogs is a fundraising event designed to help the Greyhound Adoption Center continue their efforts is rescuing retired racing greyhounds from being killed due to torture, neglect, and abuse. Part of the proceeds from this event will go to The Greyhound Adoption Center (GAC): http://www.greyhoundog.org/. The other part of our proceeds cover our rental fees, food, insurance cost, and other items needed to prepare this event. Here is the opportunity for all of us to use our exotic cars for pleasure and excitement while helping GAC rescue more greyhounds that are close to retirement resulting in death. You benefit by being able to legally drive your horses and bulls in the manner by which God, Enzo Ferrari, and Ferruccio Lamborghini intended; and, GAC benefits through your paid participation. So, please view the attached invitation, which is slated for: Date: 23-Feb-08 (weather permitting) Time: 1100 hours - sunset (around 1700 hours PST -- we will use this time for photo shoots against the SF skyline -- lighting is better that way) Check-point Charlie: NAS Alameda, CA (Maps will be provided to all registered horses and bulls.) Cost: $300 per car Spectators: Free Food & Drinks will be included. CHP or SFPD will be using a speed gun to clock our speeds. Detailed Event Information: www.itsalex.com/shootout.html Miles, my greyhound, pictured in the attached invitation next to Madellena, was rescued by GAC. He and some of his friends will be there for photo-shoots with the cars; and, if they feel like it, they might run for us -- their top speed is around 45 MPH -- an amazing sight! (Greyhounds: if you are going to run, please bring your muzzles for safety.) I hope you will participate. If not, maybe another time -- if so, Miles, his friends, Alex, Ben, and I look forward to seeing you. Check 6. -- /s/ Alfonso "I feel like my skull's on fire, but I'm good." Oh man you guys are killing me!! All the other dates I could have made, this I can't. Kids are out of school that week and we will be in Hawaii, returning that Saturday night.ARRGG, this is the one event I did not want to miss. Hopefully it will be a success and you will have another in the future.
Looks like fun, you know im in. About time someone was able to crack open the runway for a private event thats not sponsored by an OEM or a mag. you have email
Kirby, you don't mean to suggest that you were going to come spectate but *not* bring your camera . . . ? That strains the imagination! DEFINITELY bring your camera, and an umbrella. So you can take pictures of cars taking flight off the end of the runway and then splashing down in the Bay. OK, maybe it's not likely, but it *could* happen! Justice
haha...I think a 747 takes off at around 175mph and they weigh about 900,000lbs at takeoff. Imagine how much air you could get at 200mph in your LP. I thought of a new event: The Exotic Long Jump into the bay.
I think this would win for most expensive long jump event in the world. I'm so IN for this event... if my wife will let me! I need a day pass and unfortunately I just used a bunch of them going up to Tahoe to ski in 5 feet of untracked powder!
Let me tell you, if it was not an Valintine gift for my wife and my sons birthday I would!! Then I would have to come live at your place Ben!! LOL
I'll spectate. Maybe I'll videocam for you Dan, so you can take a peek at what went down that day. Count me in for a spectator.
Yeah, I'll DEFINITELY be there as a spectator, taking lots of vids and pics. Cant wait! Whats the head count so far if you dont mind me asking Should be an awesome event!!! Thanks, BrianZuk
Neither can we Dan! Besides the beautiful weather, scantily clad women, warm ocean water, white sand, amazing golf courses, scantily clad women, and cool breeze, what's so great about Hawaii anyways?
You guys might want to share a tech checklist so folks come prepared. Will there be someone running tech inspections? can i run my R compounds? need a helmet? passenger rules?
We could do it, I have a mobile verizon EVDO base station in my truck, and a big reflector in my datacenter in SF. Anyone want to provide camera, and support? (I'll be busy with other logistics) contact me.
Helmet is a must. We'll *try* to rent one or two, but at the very least if you can't get one yourself you'll have to borrow from someone. Not sure about passengers yet. We'll send out a list of safety rules prior to the event. One of the great things about the airfield is that there are no walls to hit! We'll still be taking ALL necessary precautions though. We will be renting a street sweeper to clear the entire runway of debris prior to the event as well.
Helmet is *absolutely* mandatory! You will not be allowed to drive without a well-fit helmet, absolutely no exceptions. We are looking for some competent volunteers willing to assist with secondary tech inspections, etc. Primary tech inspection is the responsibility of the driver, I recommend you see your mechanic the week before to have everything checked out (especially the brakes!) People registered to drive are going to get a full checklist, similar to many track-days.
