Hi, As some fchaters know, I am on a quest for my first Ferrari. I believe that the time as come to complete one of my life goals. So, I am asking my father to look around and test drive as many 348 units that surface in my home country. Unfortunately I work abroad and cannot do this. Also, my home country (Portugal) is somewhat small and the exotic car market is also proportional. Recently the news of my interest on a Ferrari went around the classic car owners groups and someone invited my father to take a look at another Ferrari . What was offered to my father was no more no less than an almost new F40 The car has very low mileage, equivalent to the ride from the dealership to the owners house, were it was put on a custom made trailer, were it remains up to today. Basically it was kept on the trailer and moved around this way. The odometer shows the total of 495km I believe this as close to a brand new car as possible (probably there are some 40 or 50 km cars for auction) . Unfortunately the car is starting to show the years thru oxidation and the final price has an extra digit over my budget I give you the photos . Thanks for the pictures but its so sad that this car has done nothing but look pretty its whole life thus far, in reality its had not life, its given no passer by the joy of seeing an F40 in full flight, the roar of the turbo's and the mere sight of that evocative shape at speed. Ferrari's are meant to be driven, to give the driver an amazing driving experience and to inspire everyone that is fortunate enough to see and hear a Ferrari being driven as Enzo intended.
Good luck on your search... The pros/cons of buying an essentially brand new garage queen have been debated before, so I will refrain. However, I agree that it is sad that this car has never so much as seen its own redline... Please keep us updated and informed on your quest!
Poor car. I dont know why people dont understand that its a car and its made to be driven. The car would need entirely gone through to make sure it was road worthy.
You guys would hate me but I would spruce this up a bit and keep in on display inside my house. Total time capsule. I love it.
With the original fuel tanks, and probably original timing belts..... and sized turbos.... would you even risk to start it up to ear its roar?......
To be honest, if I ever bought a car to display as an art time capsule, I would be sure to have another to drive!
I believe I have heard a bit of history on this F40. It was the first one officially delivered in Portugal. Has been quietly on the market for some time. From what I have heard there are only 3 currently registered in the country.
it's sad to see a gorgeous car deteriorate in this way .. it's going to require an almost complete rebuild to make it road worthy again .. as for attempting to start it now .. I wudnt dare try
Surface rust, would wear off in 30 seconds.....car needs some TLC, but honestly isn't that bad. Could/should be put back on the road. What a waste of a iconic beast.
