I do think pot can impair your driving, but nothing like a bunch of drinks can.

Does anyone know why the law turned against pot so hard? Was it the cotton farmer politics or part of prohibition? I think it just got off on the wrong foot with some power brokers against it. Reason alcohol has made it so easy is all the alcoholic law makers. How many people has pot killed? Now tell me how many people alcohol and cigarettes have killed? To top it off, tell me how many tax payer dollars have been spent fighting pot? How much time has been spent that could have been spent elsewhere by the authorities?

I was talking to some undercover narcotics officers and they just go after the hard drugs and dealers. I asked them about pot and they said if it was only legal, they would smoke as much as they drink (officers are big drinkers!).

I love the whole argument that pot is a gateway drug! It's more like a gateway to IHOP at 4 in the morning! :)

It was the Alcohol and Tobacco makers that pushed for the hard laws on drugs--afterall they had a monopoly and wanted to keep it.

Pot and other drugs became illegal with Prohibition, but did not become legal with the demise of Prohibition. It was simply swept under the carpet until the middle to late 1960s when the VietNam war brought the hippies out of the closet. The modern harsh penalties were an attempt to tamp it back into the closet. Illegal drug consumption has stayed relatively constant at 7%-15% of the population consuming drugs on a regular basis since before Prohibition (depending upon you definition of 'illegal' and 'regular')

    Zero, even at massive dosages.

Between 4000,000 and 500,000 per year depending upon how you classify the cause of some cancers and other health problems.

speaking of tax dollars. If pot was made legal they could even tax it like everything else. Go into the gas station buy a dime or a eighth and leave. Tax Dollars well spent IMHO.

Many states they do tax pot. Don't you have to buy a stamp for $25 or so? If you get caught and don't have the stamp, then the penalty is even more. That's hilarious. It's illegal, but they still want to make money off it. :)

If the Male buds are THC-Free then why doesnt Uncle-Sam grow those and use them for non-drug production? I read somewhere that pot could be used to produce an alternative-fuel source for cars or something like that.

IMO Pot is less dangerous than Alchohol, and if it is taxed like Tobacco the gov't could see huge returns on a relatively small investment. Im not saying it should be completely legal (are there degrees of legality? someone help me out here...) but perhaps have a age-limit and possibly a limit on possesion (like in Canada). Sound like a good idea?

They really don't. I'm in college and an occasional smoker(every few months or so). But will be quitting for good very soon, since I'm getting close to graduating. I've never seen anyone get into fights. And unfortunately the anti-drug commericials as well as just blundering idiots give people who smoke marijuana a bad name. No one I know does that idiotic stuff. We usually watch whatever game is on, or occasionally shows like jeopardy. I can hold very intelligent conversations under the influence, but when I'm drunk there is no way.
Totally agree. Alcohol is the gateway drug. Or cigarettes.

Oh come on...everyone is better at discussion and argument when they are drunk (especially when it comes to dealing with authority figures), not to mention everyone's smarter, better looking and stronger!

I'm not the expert, but it is legal to sell hemp products. I know the source is sterile hemp plants, but I don't know if it's imported or if actually legal to grow sterile plants in some states.

It's not pot. It's called ditch weed. Nothing that you'd want to smoke. That stuff will give you a ripping head ache that you'll never forget.

Didn't your parents ever have the birds and bee's talk with you? :)

Belive it or not, but there are some states that already do. They use it as an add on penalty for drug dealers. Basically you are required to have tax stamps on whatever packaging it is in, based on weight.

When they arrest a drug dealer with #'s of pot, they tack on a massive fine for non-payment of taxes as well as distribution, etc.

See, I was you on the In-n-Out pic, but now its starting to get questionable. That thing looks like one of it's sphincter muscles had an injection of muscle relaxant. What the hell is the stuff that blew out the back side there?

One of the interesting things that happened along the way to were we are today::

In 1980 the best pot in the world was grown oversees (laos) and imported. After Regan closed the borders to a useful degree, the American Entrepeneurs got their act together and filled the void. Today, the very best pot in the world is grown right here in the land of the Free.
