I just had my '86 328 GTS radiator recored at a local shop that in the past has done outstanding work for others who have exotic/older cars. I got it back and was trying to install it, and it won't fit, height-wise. It is very tight, and I'm afraid to force it in for fear of deforming the front panel above it.

Could someone with a 328, preferrably a 1986, measure the height of the radiator very accurately, top to bottom? I'm going to take the radiator back to him to have it "properly" sized, but need to know the exact top to bottom measurement.

    Thanks in advance.

p.s. If anyone has a drawing or other information with the "official" dimensions for the radiator, that would be extremely helpful.

    Steve

My measurement with it in the car is 17.25" top to bottom measured in the center between the 2 fans.

Thanks again for measuring for me! Well, that explains that. My radiator, as it came back from the shop, measures 17 1/2" high, rather than 17 1/4". I took it back to the shop today, and the guy didn't seem all that surprised to see me. He claimed that he measured the old core and ordered based on that size. But he didn't argue with me and is getting another replacement core and will re-do the radiator for me.

Not making accusations, but I suspect that he knew that either he had ordered the wrong sized core or that he was shipped the wrong core, and didn't realize it until it was put together, and just hoped the radiator would fit. Sure, if it was an old Ford or Chevy or Dodge where the radiator sits in the middle of a large, open engine bay, no problem. A quarter of an inch doesn't mean anything. But here where it fits in a tight space and would deform the bodywork if I jammed it in, that 1/4" makes all the difference in the world.

F-chat to the rescue yet one more time!!
