I have a garage that needs some old beams removed, and they need to be replaced with engineered lumber so I can get rid of the freaking pole in the middle of my garage.

Need a guy with some talent, and the ability to engineer the load properly. Don't want the garage to fall down one the lolly column is gone.

Unfortunately, I don't need a whole new garage, and I'm having a little trouble finding someone who wants to take a small project.

Anyone know anyone? Or anyone know anyone who knows anyone?

    Thanks,

    Dave

if you draw up a current model and take it to Lowes' pro desk, they will send it to the LVL beam manufacturer for the best situation , then all you have to do is hire some grunts to dig holes and pour footers and hang the beam. no biggie.

btw. what distance are you trying to span ? what is the load above?

I may be wrong but , I believe in Lower Merion Township , you may not use Tji engineered lumber products without having a sprinkler system . Due to the fact that they contain glue & sawdust ( fire hazard ) You may need to use conventional framing methods or steel construction . Call Cliff Gibbion at 610 645 6178 LM TWP Building Inspector

Most residential construction is okay with combustible framing members. Some locations require fire protection (envelope or sprinkler). If you tell me the span and loading per foot I can run a beamcheck calc for you. If you know the LVL values (bending stress, mod. of elasticity, etc...) I can be really accurate. If not I can use my stock number which are kind of on the high end for strength on lvl's. Do you have a restriction on depth of the beam or width? Also make sure you do a proper ply connection. I have a standard detail that shows the required nailing / screwing / bolting of the plies depending on the load per lineal foot. Feel free to send me a PM if you want me to calc it for ya. It only takes about 2 minutes to do.
