Jim Smalley at Ferrari of San Antonio. He is brilliant with Ferrari electronics. When he's done, the electrical system will be perfect. He also did a 456M for me. I took a few vacations in that car and it was as reliable as a Toyota. Now the 360 is like that.

That $10K sum is no longer possible for a Ferrari, or even a Porsche 911. I just completed a 996 rebuild from the crank shaft up and that was $20K just for the engine. On something like a F360, it has to be well into the $20K to do it right.

Blowing head gaskets and a hydro locked engine are very different. I would imagine something is warped. If it were me, I would determine what is warped and go from there. Replacing a head is a lot cheaper than replacing an engine.

My problem is I don't really have the time or place to do it myself. I am fairly mechanically inclined but I have only done something like this once when I was in my teens and it was on a Datsun B210. Unfortunately for me I bought my 360 in August of 2020 and roughly 3 months later a blown head gasket. I took it to a local independent for repair which they did along with various other necessary maintenance. About 5 months later and give or take 3k miles I now have the same issue. After having the car shipped to the Ferrari dealer in Nashville where they had scoped the all the cylinders and now recommended replacing the engine. From what I understand it isn't confirmed 100% but it is their opinion that after scoping all cylinders they found

several cylinders "appearing" to have bent valves. Removed coolant from cylinder seven and verified coolant running in from cylinder head. Due to amount of coolant running into cylinder, a high likelihood of hydro-lock has occurred and caused a bent rod.

They gave me two options of a rebuilt motor from Ferrari or a new motor from Ferrari both would come with a 2 year warranty but at a cost that doesn't really make sense on a less than perfect driver grade car.

I don't know what to do at this point. I am completely disgusted and frustrated.

Bummer David. A car nuts worst nightmare.

If I was in your shoes I’d just suck it up and diy…. W the excuse I’ll learn about it and make it better than oem.

    but I’m a stubborn man.

    There are a few options.
    Dump it as is
    Diy
    Pay up keep it

if you are lucky maybe there is a local enthusiast w diy skills.

I am sorry to hear what you are going through. Options are there but they are all expensive.

    1. Do it yourself. All I can go on is what you said. If all the engine work you have done is a Datsun B210, this 360 is not going to be your second engine build. That is not going to be successful. Leave this to someone else.
    2. Indy is probably a more effective approach. I know that Brian Crall in TX takes cars from faraway places to fix these major problems. You should contact him. He might still suggest a rebuilt engine but that will be much less than a dealer.
    3. Getting a used engine. I never had luck with this but you may be luckier than I was. Let's say 15K plus installation. Might be doable.

    Good luck.
