Well i have a 2000 honda S2000 with about 48k miles on it. Im attending college for one more year, and work full time, I also have a subaru Impreza that ive had for years now. But im considering trading the s2k in for something more roomy. Id like to get some ideas of what you guys are thinking about todays cars- im really not partial to any "type" or brand. My biggest thing is it has to perform very well, nice tight suspension and some power to back it up (rich rules out the 325's) buget is like a 30k car. Some ideas i had were 99 - 540i, E36 M3, Evo VIII, STI, older S4...idk what are some ideas ?

    STI...but i am bias

STI > many cars on the road today (excluding overly built Evo's that throw rods like they are on the javalin team) They are no the most fun to work on, but when you modify them correctly they are scary fast!!!

What kind of budget are you working with, as per the cars listed you have some cash to buy something above "average"...that will help dictate what cars everyone tells you go look at.

Why are you getting rid of the S2k besides room. I love those cars!! I am a honda nut to, so easy to work on and so cheap to fix anything that breaks.

    Good luck in your search

i'd vote for an evo. but of course i would, because i drive one.

first off, ive never heard of an evo throwing a rod that was properly tuned, and not owned by a moron on evom (and that would make up exactly 1 evo that i have ever heard of throwing a rod) i say, dont STi's have a load of problems and always seem to be within 40 hp of a major failure? also 300 hp > 271. but that doesnt mean you'll go faster

but dont listen to me, drive every car on that list to see what you like the best before buying one. if you are looking for the most raw performer, i'm confident that you'll agree that the evo is the one for you. but if you are not dead set on performance and the pursuit of going really really fast. dont even waste your time, you wont like the evo - theres just nothing civilized about it

a used ls430. you can get an extremely luxurious example with everything from nav to laser adaptive cruise control for less than 30K. for a little more you can get a car with the luxury package; ie, everything you could thinkg of, like rear reclining seats with massage, drink coolers...

not to mention lexus's great reliability and customer service...

If you're a student, forget the European cars. One trip to the shop, and you'll have to sell your books to pay for it.

sorry guys i perhaps should give some more info on the details. I am a student but i work fulltime and attend school fulltime. For the past two years my carpayments have been $375 , plus insurance on two cars, my apartments rent ($400) plus other expenses as going out, gas, food, ect. So you see its a pretty hefty bill. Im in the process of trying to start my own business before i finish school, projected opening date will be the 2nd day after graduation. So im trying to cut some expenses (so why dont i go buy a civic? not my taste) maybe get rid of both cars for just one, reduce my car payments and my insurance payments.

The STI...I would have to say im biased to subaru as well i started www.unysoc.org two years ago, and have been on Nasioc for the last like 6 years. Im a well known face within the tri-state subaru community. But the STI has some flaws..its a pig.

The Evo... Great car if done right and owned properly. But i too have seen too many in the shop too many times, due to minor "abuse" on the owners part. Im not one to abuse my cars in fact i baby them but i do autoX and enjoy spirited mountain drives.

Im liking the LS430 suggestion. i think im going to look more into that type of car and see what else is available.

I may not get rid of the s2k, and just get rid of the impreza and legacy (a third car of mine i gave to my current gf to use but shes thinking about buying a new car so ill be getting it back)...just trying to get an idea of what some other ppl think, my initial response is "time for a new roadster", common sense tells me "if you want a roadster get rid of the other to and get a good daily"

I have a '98 540 and it's a major service queen. I've had it for about 6 months and I've spent about 12k in service and replacement parts. I had the car checked out and it needed an inspection II, tires, cats and a wheel speed sensor, so I knew she needed some work but on your budget, I would stay away from a 5. Go with a 3 series, they're loads of fun, cheaper to buy and in most cases cheaper to own.

Look at the VW's they have a few very good/ nice/ sporty cars. I've always like VW they have good quality.
