    Hi,

I am considering a purchase of a 1997 F355 currently located in Augusta, GA. The nearest Ferrari dealer is in Roswell, about 3 hours away. Does anyone know of a good independent Ferrari mechanic a little closer to Augusta?

    Many thanks,

    Davis

I do not but I do have a good friend that lives there and owns a 98'355 GTB. Might be able to ask him to check it out for you.

do you have a link for it?

Where does your friend service his car? I would like a full pre-purchase inspection, including lead down, compression, etc., not just a look-over.

    Thanks,

    Davis

I believe he has had all of his work performed at Fcat of ATL since he has owned it. Almost 5 yrs now.

    Thanks Dave,

Fortunately the seller is willing to drive (or transport) the car 3+ hours to the nearest Ferrari dealer in Roswell. He has to bring it in for a fuel line recall anyways.

Unfortunately I called this dealer directly and found out they don't do PPI's for prospective buyers anymore. I don't know if this only applies to 355's or to all used Ferrari's. They don't want to incur the liability in case they miss something. Anyway, what they do instead is a 'maintenance inspection' for the current owner of the car. It covers pretty much the same things as a PPI, and costs about $600. Is this a new trend for Ferrari dealers?

Does your friend live in Augusta? If so, it might be a good thing to have experienced eyes look over the car after I get the pseudo PPI.

Yup, that's the one. The owner has only had it for a short while. He traded an airplane for it, thinking a Ferrari would be easier to sell. He doesn't have any records of the last 30k service and he wants $47.5k for it. I think that is too much, unless there is evidence the 30k was just completed, which I seriously doubt.

Ok fess up, did somebody on this board buy the car from under me? I was waiting for a pre-purchase inspection and the seller sold it to 'a Ferrari expert out of Atlanta' who was willing to buy it without a PPI.

If it was the Azzuro monaco 355, the previous owner was here on Fchat (and maybe still is).
He never posted about a problem, seemed to be a good car. And absolutely gorgeous.
Maybe someone knew him or the car and didn't need to get a ppi done when they saw the car for sale.

Yes, it was the Azzuro Monaco 355, previously owned by David Murphy. I didn't know it was once owned by an Fchat member. It didn't come with any recent records; the seller didn't even have documented evidence that a 30k service had been performed. The low-res pictures of the car certainly looked nice, but I wasn't about to buy it without a PPI, given the lack of paperwork.

Oh well, the search goes on...

    Hey,

I'll actually be in Augusta July 21st thru 25th. I could call my friend and see if we could meet with the owner for you.

scratch that, read on and saw it was sold....everything happens for a reason.
