Can anyone recommend someone to do a PPI on a 348 in Eugene, Oregon? Any recommendations for someone in or near Eugene would be greatly appreciated!

Dick owns ATD in Portland (503) 232-5401, it is the best Ferrari shop in Oregon. I would see if you can get him to come down on a Weekend or ??

Well then that ain't sayin' much...

Rarely in my life have I ever dealt with someone as incompetent as Dick and as rude and distrustful as his wife.

I paid them to do a "PPI" a few years ago. Someone should explain to Dick that a ppi is a "pre-purchase inspection", and is not a "request for quote".

In addition to being so completely inept about what my car needed that I can prove he barely looked at it, they essentially held it hostage.

    What?
    Short story:
Car is there. Not done. No big deal. Intercity Lines is ahead of schedule. I let ATD know that Intercity will be there for the car tomorrow, not the day after.

    Fine

Except they only accept cash. Fedex is gone for the day.
They say I can't pay with a credit card from 1000 miles away. I need to send cash. What? am I going to rip them off?

Thats still okay. If you want to scam the IRS, thats your deal.

So I arrange to go down to Bank of America to deposit CASH into their account. Good idea? NO!.

Because what if.... it is all an elaborate scheme... and the manager of my local branch is conspiring with the manager of their branch to RIP THEM OFF!

Dicks wife would not even believe the manager of my local B of A branch that I had deposited money. The Intercity lines driver is waiting outside, I'm waiting, Bank of America is waiting. Its all a big paranoid joke.

Eventually, with pleading from two (2) Bank of America managers at two (2) different locations that the transaction really DID happen, they released the car.

I got NO written statements about the "PPI", just a verbal... "well it needs belts, and cam seals, because theyre leaking and a complete service blah blah blah, and it will cost $XXXX blah blah blah".

I have never worked on a Ferrari before that car. The cam seals were fine, and recently changed (as I had been told by the previous owner). The oil was leaking very obvoiusly from the hole in the bottom of the distributor. (Thanks F-Chatters). Painfully obvious. The poor running was a bad coil wire connection. Fixed by wiggling it.

I drove the car for months with only a cursory oil change.

I checked the valves later that summer and they were fine. It was a little bit hard to remove the valve covers because the gaskets had been sealed so well that there were no leaks......

So as I said at the beginning; "Rarely in my life have I ever dealt with someone as incompetent as Dick and as rude and distrustful as his wife."

    JM

PS :They never told me that they only accepted cash until after the car was ready to be paid for.
PPS: I havent touched the cam seals, they do not leak and neither do the valve covers.

Try Eric Jones Motorsports in Springfield. He is a customer of ours and a sharp guy with lots of Ferrari race experience. I'd at least see if it is something he does, and he is right next door.

    Hope that helps

Generally my experiences with Dick at ATD over several years have been positive. It's true that he doesn't take credit cards (he does take personal checks), but in general I have found that he does good work.

I would suggest, first, that you repost this question in the northwest section. I believe there is at least one member who lives in Eugene, who would have a better answer.

On a 348, if you're willing to go to Portland, I think either ATD or Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo would be fine for a PPI. I'd probably go with RTGT, as they are generally quicker, but either would be fine.
