I am considering the purchase of a 308 from a dealer in Sherman Oaks. Not fond of buying cars from dealers, as the information is always sparse and often wrong. I need someone to lay their eyes on this car for me. If all looks good then I would have the car mechanically checked over by Fast Cars in Redondo Beach or Filippo Cusimano in Burbank before making any purchase

Is there a member of this forum willing to look at this car for me, for the price of gas and their time?

    Much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Is there anything in particular you are concerned with? Is it Monza Car on Ventura Blvd?

Yes it is Monza Car on Ventura. I asked them a number of questions about the condition of the car, i.e paint, interior, does the A/C blow cold, etc. and got very little hard information. They were unable to provide any of the history of the car's ownership as they acquired it at an auction. That precludes me from speaking with the former owner. They said it's had a repaint, but that could mean anything condition-wise. They also stated that the car had the timing belts replaced a few months ago and have the service receipts to support that claim.

What I really need is someone with knowledge of these cars to provide me with an overall impression of the car's condition, before I spend $500 to have a thorough PPI performed.

If you were able to do that it would be greatly appreciated.

I'd try to hold out for a more pristine, original paint, private party example. This one sounds like too much of a crap shoot. There's probably a reason for it being an auction car and these guys clamming up about it.

Yes. although this vehicle is the right year of coupe in the right colour combo (for me). I share your views on the preferred circumstances for buying (i.e. private sale/pristine car) and the possible reasons why these guys aren't so forthcoming, which is why I am reluctant to go the full PPI route at this juncture.

It would only take a set of informed eyes to quickly determine what we're dealing with here?

Went there a year ago to look at a Jag, am amazed that they dont even clean up there cars. Most cars on the lot were filthy, outside and inside with the previous owners grime all over the cars there. I would walk away.

Their cars are "sub par" and have always been. I'd honestly stay away from them. There are plenty of nice 308s out there.

Good advice jlonmark. Improbable that a nice 308 would wind up with Monza.

And thanks 355rockit for the link to Cavallo and their nice GTB. I sent them an email with a few questions.

FWIW: My preferred 308 is a Euro GTB (like Cavallo's) or a Euro GTB/GTS QV . I have a weakness for Giallo, which is what drew me to the GTB at Monza

You and I are looking for the same car... I passed on Monza long time ago.
