Anyone have leads on one at a reasonable price?
If the car is started 3 times and not moved, you will get a suspension light. Once you drive the car (assuming this is the case) it will be gone. And, you can get a light to do a bad shock actuator.
Remove each actuator one by one , turn on your key and make sure that each one turns and that you don't have any broken gears, before you replace the ECU.
Was your light on when you got the car and when you came down here? Or is it the 3 starts and no driving so the light is on?
The Bilstein-ECU is located in the passenger compartment behind the foot rest where the fuses are. But as said here, make sure the red actuator gears are ok first. I had the same problem and one actuator gear was broken. Quite common issue.
Well the ecu is usually not the issue not that it can't be, usually its the plastic inside the actuators on top of the shocks. Or the gear on top of the shocks. A visual inspection of these will tell a great deal. Also pulling the codes to see what the computer is saying is a must. You could always borrow a ecu and see if that fixes it. No idea of their troubleshootimg ability but if they did and thats the issue so be it.
There are several causes of a suspension light. I used to repair actuators but not any more. I posted some of the causes of a suspension light, rarely is it caused by the ECU. Read about it here http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q/209629-shock-actuators.html
Is the replacement of the ECU your idea or the idea of the shop that has your car? The same shop that has you replacing axle shafts? While I find certain professionals on this board difficult (RD ), the one very meaningful message they (well he) all bring is to diagnose the issue...not just throw parts at a car.
I am sending them the other options you guys are suggesting. They are open to looking at those other options. It's a good shop, they just might need fchat wisdom!
I hope you realize I am not picking on you. But your posts have a certain scent of the possibility that a shop is taking advantage of a new Ferrari owner who is unaware of all the details yet. I had a small F1 issue. Lakeforest ( a well respected Ferrari dealer in Chicago) flat out told me to my face that the "carbon fiber actuator shaft was broken and the repair would be $12,000" There is no such thing as a carbon fiber actuator shaft. A different shop and $200 later it was fixed and running. Be careful out there.
Fyi we could pull the ecu from my 95 or my 98 i have two sets of good parts and see what is the issue. But honestly if you can wait until spring to fix it since the car will be hibernating durring winter I/we can troubleshoot it with my known good parts and see whats wrong. Also its an annoying light but you could drive the car forever with the light on.
