Okay, I have to come out of the closet and admit I’ve been tracking down F40 possibilities for awhile now.

I’ve lusted after one for years, and have searched/scanned for anything and everything on them.

I’m about to take some road trips to see some of the top cars that seem to be good candidates.

Question: Is anyone familiar with the F40 at Andy Cohen’s shop, Beverly Hills Classic Cars?

    www.modernclassiccars.com/

It’s been there now for over 5-6 months (that I know of). Generally, that’s not a good sign. However, I got faxes of most of the records from Andy and talked to the service manager who saw it last (and did extensive work on it). I’m looking for the smoking gun on it but can’t find it. They say the two owners did not track it (yea, right), and that it’s well sorted.

Before I hop on a plane and go check it out, I wanted to ping the experts on f-chat first. I’ve been told that F40s are such that I would not know what I was looking at if I saw it. Therefore, I should ask for help from someone who knows.

    1. Anyone know this car? Opinions?
    2. Any other good 1992 F40 leads out there?

I know others on this board are doing their own searches and won’t give up the top cars they’re looking at, but maybe you can prevent me from making a mistake on a car I shouldn’t be looking at!

Thanks for any help on this!

    Tim

Oops. How did you do that? Hammer the gas and it veered sideways off the road?

Agreed. When those turbos begin to spool up you better be pointed in the right direction............

Given that I've never actually ridden in one before, I think I'll take a video of my face the first time I do to capture the moment! Given what everyone says, my expression will be priceless! Cool.

Tim, I have bought two F40's from Andy. Both of them were as advertised. The first one was a pristine non modified car, exactly as it was built from the factory. The 2nd one has racing seats and harnesses, straight pipes and an x-brace in the roof of the cabin.

I definitely think it's worth a trip tp check out what he has.

Some of the things you should look for:
Original manual and warranty book in the leather pouch - expensive to replace and a huge component in resale value.
Tool kit, including the hub socket and tire inflation aerosol can
Cracks in the rear engine cover hinges on the roof
Condition of the tires. F40's tend to have such low miles that they never had replacement tires. The originals look good but because they are so old, the rubber is hard and brittle, with small cracks. Very scary to put F40 type acceleration on hard tires.
Service records. Look for a recent major with belts replaced. Have the car checked out at LA Auto Gallery - Gary Kawakami is the service manager and he really knows F40's

    Good luck !
