I went with my dad today to look at a 355 berlinetta. It's a '95 w/ 13k miles, rossa corsa/beige. I was suprised by the lack of road rash, even if it had been recently sprayed-- I know they are prone to accumulate some. It just had the 15K service done by Algar Ferrari, including belts and new clutch. Brand new tires as well. The car is spotless, with just one exception-- the seat bolsters had some wear (It is a 10 y.o. car). The console is perfect, and the dash above the instrument cluster is fine. It also has a JL audio headunit.

The car is on consignment, and since we are going into the winter, the guy will probably we pretty lenient on the price... He will take $70,000, possibly $65,000. So what do you think? Thanks in advance

    -Joe

What about timing belt replacement? That's not a part of the 15K service, and it's certainly due according to time.

Of course I will. I'm assuming it was done, since it was originally for sale at Algar-- I doubt they would take a car without having the issue taken care of. I'll definately check.

    Assuming it is... good deal?

Although I'm not "up" on the 355 market, to be able to park one in the garage for $65k...there are just no words for how fast I'd be on that.

I have a '95 355 Berlinetta & the valve guide issue wasn't an issue & still isn't. But I bought it from a guy who drove it 3 to 4 days a week & put 39k miles on it. IMO the more you drive a Ferrari the more reliable it becomes.

Thanks for all the replies everybody... I guess we've learned all that we needed. It seems like it will be a great deal if it's a good car.

NNO, I believe the owner (the car is on consignment) can't use it now; he has young kids, so between work and that, he has no time for it?

Jssans, This will be NO garage queen. Other than the fact that the car won't be driven to work, my dad will be driving it practically every other time. With 5 cars, he's still managed to put 30K on the porsche, and I'd expect the same from any new car.

I'll keep everyone posted! (no pun intended originally, but now that I think about it... i guess its a pretty good one ;))

Since no one has said it yet, get a ppi (leak down/compression). I have a 95 355 with valves done (that was important to me). Manifolds were not as big a concern- if they go bad so be it. 65k sounds cheap for a well sorted 95 with low miles.
    Good luck

I agree about the manifolds. I have a feeling they are done, because I doubt Algar would take the car for consignment if it wasn't up to par.

Do you guys think theres any chance for 60-65? 70 is a definite, but my dads not really looking for a car now, so he's not too motivated; unless it's too good of a deal (which 65 or less)?

Of course, but I do think you're pretty safe buying a used ferrari, most of the time. Obviously before anything happens, there will be no questions as to the mechanical condition of the car (as in, we will know it's perfect).

The second rule... Is have a PPI done by a qualified third party
that has no benefit from the sale of the car.

Seems like a good price. I think if I was in the market for a 355, that would be the car to buy.
I have heard good things about Algar for service.

Yeah, they have a great service department.

BTW, do you know a guy who lives in Palm Beach gardens who has a black/tan (daytona seats)? I know this guy from where I play golf, and so far, he's gone through a 355b, 360, 360 spider, and is currently waiting for a 430 spider/6-speed. Cool guy, just wondering if you knew him (I can PM you his name if you'd like).
