Is $235,000 for a 'loaded' F1 too much money? I test drove one in Chicago today and fell in love. Obviously 'too much' is all relative, but can a 04 be purchased more reasonably somewhere else or will one just have to wait 3 years for the price tag to dip? Also I live in Minneapolis and the lack of a certyified dealer/service shop scares me (closest being near Chicago). I appreciate your time and input all!

    Keep on Truckin!

Hi Mark. I found myself in your position not too long ago and ended up buying an extremely low mileage 01 and getting an awesome deal from Lake Forest in Chicago. It stuck in my craw that I would have to pay $50K over list so I opted out of an 04. There was an interesting comment in Vol. 29, Number 6 the March 20 Ferrari Market Letter by a reader. He wrote that the dealers are sitting on a lot inventories and not selling them. Is the bubble about to burst? I used to say yes but now that I purchased one I hope the prices stay high so I don't look like a fool. Good luck.

Ferrari of Orange County wants to sell me a 2003 360 Spider (F1, Red Tan w/ virtually every option but Subwofer) for $235,000 back in Nov,2003, I didn't buy it because it was a F1.

So I guess $235,000 is about right.

My friend Ray Joseph has a 580 mile 2003 LOADED F1 red/tan Spider he would sell in the mid to low 220 range.

    http://www.rpmsportscars.com/inven.htm

If you are interested you can email me and I'll give you my full name which you can use when you call Ray. I've done a couple of deals with him and he is a real stand up guy. You can absolutely believe what he tells you about a car down to the smallest detail. He is as fussy as me, and I am downright fanatical about my cars. Take care.

I live in Newport Beach and got a red tanlast week for $235,000 all loaded up.
for 3 years I thought I would not pay a dime more than list price, but , once I bought this car I am sorry I waited this long . these cars are very tempermental so I would only buy new, the only thing I would do diffrent is ask the dealer to change the exhust and out instal a tubi in it, it sounds much better wit it and when they are charging you 30K over they can effort it.
    Good luck!!

I've bought quite a few new and used Ferraris and they are all "tempermental" to one degree or another. To to buy an 04 based on thinking it is less tempermental than an 03 or even an 02,01 is a mistake. Put it this way, my brother Jay has an O4 he took delivery on in January. It's been in the dealership twice already and in one case they had to drop the transmission. The point is they are not going to start falling apart after they are 24 months old, 36 months old, etc.

the list new prices are up so that is about 30 k above list..that seems about right for a new car...the f1s command a higher price...you can diffently get better prices on the 6speed...have you drive one... the 6speed is a lot of fun...as for the 430, i doubt is will be an 05, maybe an o6,but who knows. if you keep waiting, tommorow may never come..get the best deal you can and buy and enjoy, likfe is too short to worry about future prices, models, etc... esp with a ferrari,..its all emotion!!!!!

Im pretty sure I read somewhere that the 430 would be in the markets around mid-2005 and before 2006.

If the 430 Coupe comes in 2005 (and that is far from certain), than you would still probably have to wait for the Spider to come out for another 2 years. My spider is due beginning next year, and this is quite a dilemma.

Hi Seppy, I certainly didn't steal the car but it was a fair deal. I ended up paying $188K and they threw in a complete service on the car, including fluid change, clutch throw out bearings update, etc. because even though it was a one owner 1700 mile car, it was not driven much. The car is loaded, shield, challenge grill, red brake calipers, etc. And Tyler at Lake Forest is a super good guy. He also made arrangements to have the car shipped over to Emmons Coachworks so Larry could give it a complete detail.

Thanks for you advice on the Tubi, by the way.

MSRP on my 2004 F1 Spider which I took delivery on Feb 20th was 199,886 and that was before the price increase!

Your getting a full three year waranty so take the car. It a good deal.

I'm sure I'll get the Tubi, I want to drive the car for awhile as is and then when I'm in the mood for a change, I'll step up. I should probably post a separate thread on this -- or give you a call -- but does the Tubi add any performance advantage that you can tell?
