Hey guys, I have been a fan of the Scuderia since it came out and now have an opportunity to purchase one privately. It is red with gray stripe. Very very very low miles and virtually new, Asking price is to be negotiated. Any advice on what I should be concerned mechanically and what should be the price. I have not driven it yet. It is being delivered from an estate sale and I will be able to inspect and test next week.

Just make sure to get a PPI and feel free to post some photos and the VIN. Someone here may know the car.

What is an PPI and what would it cost?

A PPI or Private Party Inspection in order to determine if the car has any mechanical problems. It should be performed by someone familiar with the Scuderia. As to cost, it can vary widely, but it is always worth it.

Absolutely, an inspection will be done. I have been told of the obvious with regards to leaks. Also, I have been told to drive the car in all modes and pay attention to how it shifts. I don't know anyone who would be familiar with this car, but I have been told from someone that is familiar with the car that it is like new. Any thoughts on price if it is all good. Can you think of anything else? Thanks

According to the Scud pricing calculator, the car should be around 189k retail.
Assuming the PPI is good and their is no milky discoloration of the carbon fiber in the engine bay and no spidering problem with the headlights, 180k would be a steal.

Greatly appreciate the input. Sounds like at$188,000 they are not doing me any favors, so then it comes down to how bad I want this car with 800 miles. The visual and driving test will tell. Have Scuds stabilized or are they still on a decline. Unbelievable car for the money. The Speciale is $333,000 and up. It sounds like The Scuderia is a steal short and long term. Thanks everyone for the sound advice.

I believe prices have stabilized... Considering the mileage that is not a bad price!!!

Actually scud prices may have been increasing slightly. At 188k for a private party sale is actually pretty good. Remember that you always have to pay a little premium over for a super low mileage car. I would not be surprise if an authorized dealer is asking for 200k or more for this car.

That's actually a very fair price for the mileage (and considering it's red). If the PPI is clean, I wouldn't balk at that price for this car. Does it have the US Carbon package?

When I was looking around for a Scud late last year, I had several sell out from under me while I looked around.. and one similar to this sold for $193K very quickly before I could buy it.. my offer went in about 30 minutes after they had sold it (it all worked out in the end as I am very happy with the Scud I ended up with, however).

800 mi on a 2008 car? That's an average of 133 miles / yr. I'd be cautious. PPI for sure, but these cars typically need a couple thousand miles of good, solid driving to shake out any bugs / gremlins. And if any are found this late in the game out of warranty, they could be costly. These cars don't like to sit around (seals dry up, etc.). I'd also suspect the original Corsas have hardened up. If you do end up purchasing, I'd buy new tires immediately regardless of how much tread depth is remaining on the original tires. Cheap insurance.

And as a 2008, there is a good chance some of the engine bay CF will yellow over time. Has any of it been replaced already?

Personally, I'd feel better buying a car that was driven 750-1,000 miles / yr at regular intervals.

The car does have the carbon package interior and engine, but the physical inspection will be during the week that will tell a lot. I will keep everyone posted next week after inspection. I am glad I reached out and got a little more sense of what to look for. Thanks for all that has been said.

800 miles -- garage queen indeed. I would certainly insist that whoever does the PPI do a 30 - 50 mile drive to get things all warmed up so he could check for oil leaks. Oh -- that would knock $1k off the price. :) Otherwise you will be doing it anyway after you purchased the car.

+1. My top priority would be the maintenance records. Owners who park their cars tend to blow off maintenance. This car should have an oil & filter change every year, a brake fluid flush every two years, an A/C service, and at least one F1 transmission fluid flush. I would look carefully for dry rot on everything made of rubber.

Use the search feature, there are many threads here that you find helpful.

    Are you in the US?

If so, the optional carbon in 2008 was the front splitter, rear diffuser and headlights. Everything else was standard. Does it have that? It's called US carbon package. Some cars have one or two of those three optional items.

That question drives as much as $10k in value, so we can't give you input on price without the answer to those three things.

Also, why do you want an un-driven 6 year old Ferrari? What do you intend to do with it?
