I was thinking of getting an air shotgun by Gamo for pest control. They shoot a small package of #9 hard shot at approximately 750FPS. I was wondering what the risk of ricochet would be if required to shoot at very close range. I imagine the shot being so small and light at such low FPS that they would lose significant energy upon impacting any hard surface and wouldn't ricochet with any meaningful force. However, I have no experience.

    Any thoughts?

Prob low risk but glasses would still be wise.

i need to go to work. pm me if i can help, but i would strongly recommend a quality pellet rifle, like the two RWS Diana rifles i posted in your bat thread. pellets do not bounce, and even if they do, they have no energy left to harm you, or break glass, ect. i agree you should always wear eye protection with any projectile firing device.

a quality adult airgun flattens the pellets out, or they go in and stick, there are very few ricochets. i shoot into an old 76 camaro hood i have in my back yard as a backstop, as the steel hood makes the pellets go splat. if you grew up with cheap bb guns like we all did, an adult air rifle is like comparing a Fiat to a Bugatti.

He's asking about an air shotgun not a pellet gun.

    Me? I don't have a pellet gun but I wish I did.

I just shoot CB longs in a .22 rimfire rifle, just as quiet as a pellet gun.

I think the Europeans are far more advanced in the air gun scene than we are.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was referring to Joe in the second part of my post about the intended target for his new air-powered shotgun.

Ever put a baby bottle nipple on the end of a .22 and fired some longs through it (or even LR for that matter)? Pretty effective for the first few shots. So I hear. :)

Completely agree about the Europeans being more advanced in air guns. If you look at the best air rifles out there, most all of them come from across the pond.

750 fps is still pretty hard. When we play paintball we're regulated to 300 fps.

do it. Before I rebuilt my old house I had a rat infestation. I took down the wall into the garage and used to sit on a folding chair with a six pack and my air gun. good times! I was glad when it was remodeled and i could park that thing and the air conditioner was finally working and i could get some sleep.

In these situations, it doesn't matter the gun, but coors light is the one for a 2am 100 degreee shooting spree from your folding lawn chair.

Have Fun! Get the gun, you'll have to repaint once you're done no matter the fps.
