I am in the process of completing purchase and PPI. Have completed the majority of PPI and have only the compression testing to perform. If all all the cylinders read similar #'s on the compression and are within the acceptable range is it necessary to do a leak down on the all the the cylinders? Or, is a single cylinder leak down enough and probably reflective of all the cylinders? The independent is suggesting that this assumes that all the cylinders will have similar leak downs if all have comparable normal compressions there is no need for a leak down on all the cylinders. One leak leak down should be reflective of all the other cylinders? Please advise as to the correctness of such thinking.

Obviously if there is a low cylinder and out of the statistical range of the others further leak downs will be indicated.

Thanks for the advice. Potentially a future TR owner.

    Best regards,

    AK

Unlike some other makes and models the Ferrari 4 valve series of which the TR was one was not known for problems causing unexpected compression loss and the motors generally lasted a very long time.

A leak down is not something I generally do on them unless there is a problem.

Thanks Brian for the prompt reply! Compressions check is occurring this morning. Really appreciate your experience and insight.

when the compression test is ok there is then no need to do a leak test
only if the compression is not ok it would be good to do a leak test to see how bad it is
