I have a FIOS router that connects a network storage device and a few computers. In my office I have an ethernet jack that the desk top computer connects to. Can I attach a splitter or router to this single ethernet jack so I can connect both my desk top and a network printer? Currently the printer is just connected to the desk top computer.

    Yes, it's called a hub. About $30.

Thanks, Do I just plug the computer and the printer to the hub, or do I have to do some sort of configuring of the ip adresses?

Probably the ip will self config via DHCP. (probably about 80% of the cases out there)

Plug both the workstation and the printer into the hub and then plug the hub into the wall. If there is a port labeled "Uplink" plug that one into the wall. (Most hubs today any port can be used as an uplink and autodetect so if you don't see it, don't worry, just plug it in anywhere and see what you get. )

The important thing is if you don't see green lights on all 3 ports, it ain't gonna work till you get the wiring right.

The wiring is the easy part... configuring the network printer is where the fun begins.

Thanks guys. I will give it a try. Are there any specific functions or capabilities I should look for in a hub?

    cheap.

Actually hubs don't really exist on the new market now a days... you're looking for a switch. (in your world they are the same thing but technically they are different)

Any cheapo deluxe switch will do ya. Linksys is one of the better brands. Go to Sams or Costco or Office Depot or even Walmart. (heck even Sears probably) Avoid Best Buy unless you really prefer to pay 20% extra.
