    Hey Guys,

I am taking my red 348 into the shop to get he front spoiler road rash taken care of. I was wondering if anyone out there has gotten there black plastic targa top painted red. I like the look but, was wondering how it is done, with it being a bit rough. Also if I do get it painted I would think that I need to worry a bit when it stowed behind the sead (seats may sub against the paint).

    Thanks.

Just get the paintshop to paint the top at the same time. Peice of cake for them boys. Get them to have a look and they will soon let you know. Painted tops looks cool IMO. Afterwards, get an auto-upholster to make you a leather/vinyl cover/bag to slip the targa top in, for when you want to take it off and put behind the seats. :) I think some Fchat owners have a bag/cover made for the their targa tops when they want to go topless in Summer. :p:p

Thanks PAP. Right after the paintshop its going into Autosprint where Giovanni will be giving its major. The car runs strong and feels great but, I think it's time, I got the 30k kit from Danieal at Ricambi, great guy to deal with. I know you love pix so here she is....

I was thinking the same thing, but it would look like **** to paint over the vinyl. I did a stint with restoration work and I think a metal surface would be prefered. It should be no biggy to fabricate one but I am unfamiliar with what is out there as far as TS's go.

True the guys at the body shop did prefer metal over plastic....so does that mean they would have to fabricate on for it....I just want to be on the safe safe and hear from someone that has done this the right way with out thinking about the $$$...although that does fit into the grand sceme of things...but I have to intentions of selling her...

    If it's like a 308/328, it's already painted.

The grain is embossed into the fiberglass and painted black. There isn't a vinyl covering.

I had my top painted for less than $500. Actually, I probably paid too much, but they did a nice job.

One thing that I will advise... leave your latches and rubber gaskets attached. Just tell the shop to mask them off. Why? If they loose them, they're a bloody fortune to replace, and secondly, the gaskets somewhat self-destruct if you try to remove them. (ask me how I know. :( )

I agree, painted tops make the 348ts look fantastic. If somebody could find nice vinyl/leather storage bags, it'd be great. The seat-backs can *easily* destroy a freshly painted top when the thing is stored on a sunny day.

Would GAHH be the place for something like that to get made? Could we ask Pap to skin some 'roos instead of vinyl? It'd be nice and soft.
