Can someone give me advice on what to look for in general. Are some years less desirable. What mechanical tests whould be performed, etc. What is expected change in value in next 3 to 5 years.

Some say the pre 1988.5 are less desirable as they have single lug nut wheels, etc. The price should reflect that though. Make sure to get a good PPI from a Ferrari mechanic or an authorized dealer - They should know what tests to perform - Check for prior accident damage, leakdown, etc - Should cost $400-$600.

I don't think there will be too much depreciation in the next 3-5 years. I believe the 308/328/348/TR's have all been getting pretty near their depreciation ranges.

If you buy one with low miles and pay a premium, that would depreciate a little faster as you add on the miles.

    Good luck!

I prefer the looks of the early single mirror, knock-off wheel model myself...loooks more exotic.

Here is what determines top price car. No accidents, sharp original condition, Low mileage, documented service and good color (red, yellow maybe black). Don't worry about top of the dash leather peeled from the vents (can be easily fixed), seatbelt motors not working (will be fixed be a dealer under warranty) some smoking when the car is fired-up (they all do it) or front spoiler in bad shape (you will do again yourself). When you find the car of your dreams take it to a real Ferrari dealer and get their opinion. As far as which years, the knock off wheel cars bring slightly less money but nothing in comparison to the what gets knocked off if my first 4 items are off. Good luck

    Dear Ferraristi,

Don't worry about milage. Service records are the main thing...especially the cambelts in the major. If just the belts were done to "say it's done" chances are other things have been neglected. Take a potential car to the place where you WILL service it. Other than that, they are very expensive cars to maintain but great for long distances.

I love my TR so I spend what it takes to keep it in top shape. I hope you will do the same :)
