Anyone have a amp model that fits good behind the left panel in the passender foot well? My PQ10 is toast and I need another 4 channel amp that fits.

Is there a chance that your amp is toast BECAUSE its mounted behind the left panel in the passender foot well?

No amp is gonna cool well enough in that spot... id consider another location, which may also expand your options for a replacement.

Very clean amp install Dave! Most importantly, the cooling fins on the amp are exposed in a large open-air area.
I'm on the fence about your sub location... but it also looks very clean!

Blaupunkt TSA 460 is designed to run at low temperature in an enclosed space. It comes with a removable glamour housing so you only need to fit the pure amp box. Not sure about fitting space in footwell though!

Class D 4/3/2-Channel Amplifier with Sigma Delta Modulation Technology
    Max. Power 4 x 120 / 2 x 300 (4 Ohm) 4 x 180 (2 Ohm)
    RMS Power 4 x 60 / 2 x 150 (4 Ohm) 4 x 90 (2 Ohm)
    Bridging Mode: 4/3/2 Kanäle
    Total harmonic distortion < 0,15 %
    Subsonic-Filter (20 Hz, switchable)
Low Pass variabel 50-250 Hz (Channel 1-4)
High Pass variabel 50-250 Hz (Channel 1-4)
    Line Out
    Remote Switch-on
    Size (B x H x T): 253 x 67,5 x 210 mm / 205 x 45 x 177 mm (without housing)
    Weight: 3,7 kg

I chose this one to fit in the trunk as I use the car to transport my worldly goods every so often and couldn't afford to lose a single cubic inch of trunk space as in those fantastic installations shown above (boy, do they all look good!)

There are some pics of the naked amp on my 348 GTS Refresh thread

    Drew

footnote: mine is back with Blaupunkt for repair at the moment but I guess that is a one-off problem!

Richard, you might want to take a look at full-range class D amps; smaller and less heat generated than traditional amps. Your original amp may have become heat soaked in that confined space. Here is a link to an Xtant product review: Xtant. I've never used them (I like the older Phoenix Gold amps myself) but they look interesting for space restricted installs.

Oz, is your sub enclosure vented into the cabin???

Surely that installation will cause understeer when the bass on "Another one bites the dust" causes the front tyres to lose contact to the road? :D

I went out and purchased a sony XM-4S. It's smaller then the amp I had. I don't think the location is a big deal since the amp that was in there before lasted 17 years.

I have had many competition audio cars and your install (of your 10"sub) goes against anything I have seen you must have to drive that thing pretty hard to get any decent bass response or is there something that I don't see IE vents to the inside of your car otherwise it can't be very efficient.
To drive my 325 cabrio which has a reinforced trunk I had to cut 4 vented tubes into it and use 2 12" performance subs running about 800 watts bridged just to get decent bass out of the trunk.

... it is not vented into the cabin.... though it sounds like it is... :)

:p :p.............. it does it on block rockin' beats by 'chemical brothers' too.... ;)

...it does seem counter intuitive but sounds great :)!! From classical to heavy electronic,it sounds very defined and clean. I don't have to crank it up at all to get quality sound. I am very pleased with the results. That 6 channel PPI may have some thing to do with it.... :D :D!!!

    it sounds fabulous!! :D

whew, I didnt wanna be the one to say it...
Goth, you rock dude, but imagine the sound quality of your stereo system inside the car if ALL your speakers were in the trunk?
Having the sub isolated in there serves no function other than maybe vibrating the entire car. The point of any speaker (especially the sub) is to move air within the listening space. Hence the comments about venting into the cabin.

This is why movie theaters dont put the subwoofers out in the parking lot ;)

I am very familiar with pro-audio and I agree that it will sound even better if I cut a hole in the wall to direct the low freqs into my 'air space'..... As I have mentioned before it does sound very loud and clean in its current config. I don't really need it to sound any better than it does now, especially if it means cutting a hole in the car... :(.

BTW If it were a Honda....... I would not hesitate to cut a hole in it, even if it did not need it..... ;) :D!!!
