Hi All, I'm the proud owner of a 1979 400i. Because of deferred maintenance I pulled the motor @ 6 years ago and left it with my mechanic. He disassembled the heads (which were rebuilt by a long time Ferrari mechanic who is now retired). When we opened up the timing cover we discovered that all the timing sprockets and tensioners were worn so I ordered a new chain and other items from Superformance as well as new pistons and rings, a gasket set and misc. other items for the rebuild. Long story short my mechanic has some health issues and can't finish the job so I'm looking for someone in the NY, NJ or CT area who can do it. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I'm located in NYC.

I'm not sure if he is taking any new clients, but Braden (sponsor here) does nice work.

Hi John, Bradan's website not working. I'm not having any luck with the local shops I've contacted. I may have to try to do it myself.

The engine isn't that complicated, you can get all the torque values online.

I did a top end rebuild, which is probably the most complicated aspect.

Out of everything, the most unpleasant part was dealing with the water and oil pump chain tensioner, everything else is very straight forward and easy.

I am happy to guide you step by step. Send me a PM.

I also suggest you remove your phone number from the post, will pick up many scammers.

Perhaps the moderators can do that now.

    Maybe Tom Yang?
Maybe 50 miles upstate? He conceals his location for security purposes.

That's a great idea, Fred. I'm going to gather all the pieces from my mechanic and try to assess the next step. Unfortunately, engine building seems to be a dying art.

While I don’t have any personal recommendations, I’d imagine there should be more than plenty of experienced shops in the vicinity of New England, NJ, NY area for something like this.

Pocono Sports Cars would be my suggestion.

I would recommend Steve Markowski. He cut his teeth rebuilding V12's as a kid in his dad's restoration shop. He works out of New Jersey. PM me for his contact info.
