I am considering purchasing a 4200 mile 1980 308 GTBi. It is on the Daniel Schmitt web site. I have owned two carbureted 308 GTB’s and still love the look especially with Euro bumpers.
While looking at the undercarriage pics there are some welds that look suspect. Likely just hand made variations but opinions would be welcomed.
    Thanks

Though it’s hard to tell, inconsistencies in welds from the factory could happen as everything was built by hand with no automation amd perfection as is today.
It’s low low miles so definitely look to service records
Low miles does not substitute lack of service.
    Good luck with your purchase

I agree that hand built cars can have many quirks.
    A 1977 308 GTB was my 1st Ferrari. In 1999 I purchased a 1500 mile 1979 308 GTB. I have been very fortunate to have also owned two 246 Dino’s, a 330 GTC and currently a 5000 mile one previous owner gated 360 Modena.
It seems that the two valve injected 308’s have a mixed reputation. What seems to be the issue with these examples.

Issues? They are the slowest of any 308…..ever
Speedometer swap is common. If this happened in the one you are looking at, make sure it’s documented

I'm not exactly sure what is in your circles, but I will mention a whole bunch of what you have circled is fiberglass and not steel, so I'm not sure if they are welds you are talking about.

    Helpful comment
I think I have decided not to pursue this purchase
If it were carbureted I would be more enthusiastic

Factory welds aren't exactly the cleanest lines you'll ever see anyway. ;)

They are the slowest according to their specs, but I drove one and it was absolutely fantastic!
I always remember that the more power I have, the harder to use it within the speed limits and to hear the sounds.

All 308's are slow by modern performance standards - That's just progress for you.

Today, they're more about the occasion than the outright performance (even standard family cars will give them a run for their money, never mind "hot" versions)

The trick is to just enjoy the occasion, and let the rest go!
