Don't want to hear the" The exhaust is the greatest sound ever"----I know, I know... I searched some previous threads, but nothing really matches what I am looking for. I currently have an Alpine head unit(CDA-9883) and JL Audio seperate speakers. All in the stock locations and it sounds great. BUT, I need a little bass. Nothing fancy, just a little kick to the system. I am looking for real world experiences with adding a subwoofer and small amp. Locations?, mounting tips?, etc.. Thinking of nothing bigger than an 8" sub maybe even a small 6.5" sub. I called Crutchfield and they recommended a JL Audio 6.5" sub, but I am not sure where to mount it. Maybe between the seats below the glove box? And then I would have to build some type of custom enclosure for it.. Any ideas???

I'm thinking of making a box that fits in the space behind the headrests with the speakers either pointed up or forward. I have also seen a post where someone removed the storage box in that same space and built a box that fit where the storage box was located with the speakers pointing to the sides.

I'm looking at doing the same also. My setup is similar to yours (285) except I have a 4 channel amp mounted in the trunk. The system that was in my car had some strange cabinets mounted behind each seat. Sounded OK, looked like S**t. Basically a Dweeb install job. I'm back to the stock look except of course for the iPod connection. I also thought of putting a 6.5" Sub where the little glove box is located or a speaker behind each headrest. I have a targa top so mounting between the seats won't work if I want the top off.

I think a good mounting bracket could be fabricated that is held in place by the 3 screws holding the glove box down with wings on either side to mount the enclosures. This is one of my Winter projects. 8" subs would be better but the look behind the headrest would be rather obnoxious. I'm willing to sacrifice some fidelity for looks in this case!

    Robbie,
Next time we get together, take a look at the set up in my car. Pretty well done if you ask me. I will post some photos soon.

    Robbie,

I saw someone that had built one that goes in the passenger footwell but couldn't find it when searching. Anyone have any pics or remember it?

    Robbie,

I have a 8inch powered Alpine sub woofer behind the passenger seat in my car, its not ricer loud but it adds the depth missing from the frequency response. I am still using standard door speakers with an Alpine headunit. Installation is clean and simple with only power earth and signal wires needing to be run, all wiring is included in the box with the sub. My last daily had an infinity kappa 12 running about 150w (RMS) and the sound in the Ferrari is not a mile away from the daily.

I would post some photo's for you but my car is away being service at the moment. I can get some photo's in a few days if you want to see what i am talking about.

    Robbie,
Here you go. I have no idea who did this, but they did a nice job. The leather and stitching match perfectly. In the boot, the made a faux floor above the amp to maintain a stock look. Sorry for the crappy pics, I just ran out to the garage and snapped away just for you! :D

that looks like a very nice install for sure! What kind of sub is that? They sure knew how to match the leather and it looks totally stock. I wonder if you could throw a 12" sub in the front trunk and hear it in the cabin???

I think this is one of the best solutions I've seen to the dilemma of how to get bass in a small space. If anyone else is interested in pursuing this solution know that there is an alternative to the Earthquake sws8 used. The Pioneer Premier shallow mount 8 has similar dimensions and specs and is half the price of the Earthquake at Onlinecarstereo.com. I have no experience with either driver, but from an appearance standpoint the Pioneer has a more subtle appearance IMO if that is a concern.

I have no affiliation, personal or business interest with onlinecarstereo.com, but I have used them in the past and had nothing but positive experiences FWIW.

Will not work on an F355 I looked at that before, total Different setup on 355 under footwall.

I have a An alpine Alpine CDA-7897 with cross-over speakers that sound amazing I also have an Alpine V12 MRD-M301 amp driving both speakers and the sound is great I would add a subwoofer if I found A small flat high power one. But I don't think anybody makes one yet. I would install it somewhere behind the seats not anywhere in front.

Seemed like an interesting amp/speaker but doesn't seem to be available in the states.

Doesn't Goth have a big **s Sub mounted in the trunk? Might be another option to consider.

BTW Goth - you still owe me photos of the wiring thru the firewall!! LOL!

Robbie, I think you can get an 8" sub behind the pedals. I've seen this done somewhere, just can't find any pics. I'd do that myself but I like to stretch out and put my left foot back there sometimes. Otherwise, a pair of 6.5s in a small box on top of the shelf behind the passenger seat would probably do the trick. I had a setup designed a few years ago like this but never bothered to do it.
