A few years ago my mom wanted something called a mother's necklace. It was a necklace that had the birth stones of her three children. You could probably get a style that you could add stones to if necessary. I think they also have mother's rings and broaches.

I am in a similar situation as you...wife's first mother's day is in less than 2 weeks. I bought her a "Thumbie" we sell them at the funeral home as memorial jewelry...we take a fingerprint of the deceased and make a gold or silver charm out of it. I used our daughter's footprint, of the form that the hospital gives you, instead of a fingerprint and had them make me a gold charm out of it with her birthstone then had her name and date of birth engraved on the back.

If you are interested...probably too late by now as it took a couple of weeks to get mine...you can check them out at www.thumbies.com. If anyone wants to order one PM me and I will get it for you for less than what they offer on their site.

Somehow I don't think this would be my wife's first choice...

But if you decide to go this route, I would at the very least, leave out this part when you explain the gift!

Yeah may want to leave that out. Meadowhill Co., the manufacturer, marketed these charms as tokens of remembrence for births, birthdays weddings etc. They recently started marketing them through funeral homes so go with that if you want. I think that it is a great idea to commerate a birth as well. :)
