Can any of you tell me how high you have built your garage ceilings when placing a lift inside. Also, how high are you rasing your garage door when it is up. Do you place an extra set of door tracks to raise it up against the raised ceiling?

I am using the M6, 4 post. Movable from bay to bay. Commercial grade. Nicely built, good design. Made in USA.
They provide dimensions and required clearances here. Measure the height of your car, add to the "full up" dimension of the ramp, add a foot.

    For a two post,

They explain pretty much all of the space requirenments.

I have found that I can get away with about 18" less recommended overhead clearance with my 308 as long as the rear hatch is closed.

Okay, a 10 foot ceiling is a good start. If you have a pitched ceiling you might want to run the doors up the pitch. It helps in tight situations.

Mine is 12' and I run the garage door about 6" below the ceiling.

My garage ceiling is 9'4". I have a two post lift and that is the minimum needed for my lift. I can get my 365GT up on the lift and pull my Porsche under it with no problem. I did have to have the garage door tracks raised up.

Technically, you need approx 72-75" (the max lift height of your lift) + the height of your tallest car ....... but unless your ceiling height can accomodate the height of your posts without getting into some reframing, the post height is often the limiting factor in residential garages.

As far as width.......its often 12-15' (20' is best). As far as length, unless you've got a Maybach, 22-25' is fine.
