    Hey Folks

I have a 1989 328 GTS (Bought in 94) and noticed the prices have been going higher recently.
Im looking to purchase another sports car. I initially thought I would buy the new Z06 but then I got to thinking if I'm going to spend about 100k what options are there in a Ferrari.

I know this question annoys a lot of people here but which current Ferrari $80-130k would either retain its value or go up in value in the near future say 5-8 years and not drain me with maintaince. I know there is no such thing as an investment car but I figure I would lose $40k in 5 years with a Z06 can I do better with purchasing an older ferrari right now?

I was thinking along the lines of a 360/F430 or 612 .. Tell me your thoughts. Input appreciated thanks!

You're right, the "which car will make me the most / lose me the least money" question does annoy a lot of people here. Me included. With the cars you are looking at, none of them should be thought of as an investment. Buy the one that makes your eyes light up when you walk into the garage. (You already have a 328 - excellent choice - so I assume you know that feeling.).

Quite frankly, if you are looking at swapping the 328 for any of the three cars you have cited, I think that's a bad decision. I don't believe 328's are going to continue going through the roof the way we have seen recently, but I also don't believe the 'bubble' is going to burst and all of a sudden values will plummet. If you are looking for a "safe" place to park your Ferrari money for the next 5 years, I believe you already have it.

But that said, if you are adding to the stable, and are concerned with maintainence and depreciation, I can offer an opinion or two. The 360 is in my opinion right about at the bottom of the depreciation curve. Anything you buy now will only devalue over the next few years due to mileage and wear & tear. Will it go up? No. I don't think so. Not in the next 5 years to be certain, and given the amount built, probably not in the foreseeable future. The 430 might still have a bit of downward depreciation to go, but not much. Same comments on appreciation in the near future.

Both cars are relatively trouble free, with the 430 taking the edge in maintenance costs (hooray for chains!) given the various improvements and refinements.

The 612 has long been a very under rated car. Will it depreciate? Yea, I think so. The 2+2 cars have always had a difficult time. How much? I'm afraid I don't follow that market enough to know. Maintainence on the other hand will be higher given the 12 cylinder lump.

So. You asked for thoughts, there are mine. My recommendation? Get the car that makes your pulse race. None of the ones you mention should be thought of as a financial investment - just an emotional one.

I would go with a three pedal 360 or 430. There are no more three pedal F-cars period.
