I have been trying through various means (ebay, cars.com, etc) to try and sell my 1986 Mondial cabriolet. A dealer in pennsylvania called Autoworks International (www.autoworksllc.com) has offered to put the mondial in their showroom but they are about 2 hours away and I'm wondering if there is a dealer in New Jersey (preferably northern NJ) that does consignment selling...any info would be most appreciated...thanks....

any car can sell as long as price is right.
i will assume that you had no luck via ebay etc because the price did not meet your expectation. in that case consignment will not help much since premium price dealer/broker might get will be off-set by the commission.
plus, u dont want a place claim to be able to sell your car, and hold your car there for months without a buyer at a satisfactory price while u might have a private buyer during that time.

usually a dealer can take 5-7% fee, sometimes they might offer service for a flat rate if they are being friendly.

Try High Marques in Morristown. Ask for John Vogt and I'm sure if the car is clean they will sell it. They are a "premium" dealer selling top condition pre-owned high line cars (for TOP DOLLAR). The advantage of having the car in a store front vs. eBay or other online media is the ability to see and feel. The environment that you place the car for sale in also adds to the ability to get a premium on a good example.

    Good Luck.

Classic Coach will be able to help you but as Chris said they would probably take a percentage of sales price as comission. If you are still interested i can talk to someone at CC and see if they will be willing on a consignment.

Doesn't hurt to talk to Classic Coach, although they are not a dealer in a traditional sense, and don't have a showroom. They do have a strong and deep customer base, and for this reason are always buying / selling for their customers.

As Eric noted, putting a car on consignment with a good broker / dealer is helpful simply by virtue of the car being in a heavily trafficked area. What you will ultimately get after commission will obviously be lower than had you sold the car yourself, but there is obviousy a premium attached to being able to sell the car expeditiously.

The CarStore of Glenside, located in Glenside, PA also has a strong reputation, and is a sponsor on this board.

You can also try Ferrari of Central New Jersey, although my sense is that they prefer newer cars.

    Good luck.

i bought my white nsx last year from buzz over at autoworks.
great experience and he is a straight shooter. but you are right,
the dealership is very far. i definitely recommend trying to sell it
    yourself.
