Going to Spain w/my wife but made a deal only if we go see the F1 RACE. Where do I buy the tickets and any recommendations when I'm out there.

There's another place that we've used in the past - www.gpticketshop.com - tickets might be a slight bit higher than those available from the circuit site, but from all our dealings with Marc at gpticketshop - every transaction has been a great one.

Did notice on the circuit site they have parking passes available. We got our parking pass at the same time we got tickets to Magny-Cours last year and that's a great plus!

Just don't miss out on the "cheaper if purchased by dates"!! With the current USD - EUR every little bit helps.

    Enjoy

I went there last year. We stayed in beautiful Barcelona and I had an organized bus tour taking me to the track, but that isn't really necessary: There is a train station right next to it and you can just walk up to it. No problem. They got great food stands outside the track. Once inside there are the usual booths, but nothing too special, but ok. One word of caution: You might want to bring a roll of toilet paper and handy wipes. The toilets weren't that great to begin with and they run out of paper after a couple of hours...

If you have time enough, walk around to the far side of the track as possible, just to get an idea of the circuit as it is so hilly and charismatic. Other than that, look forward for a great time. Especially in Barcelona, that city rocks!

Thanks guys. Quick question to TIFOSI12. Where did you buy your tickets for the race.

I also may be going. I'm considering the Spanish, Hungarian, or Turkish GPs. I'll only be going to one and money is very tight. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

I have been to the Spanish GP a few times. I haven't been for the last couple of years though. I get the impression that the 'Alonso factor' has changed the GP considerably. It used to be a Grand Prix where you could turn up 10 minutes before the race with a General Admission ticket and get a great view. I believe Andreas will concur that this situation has changed somewhat and it is now one of the more lively Grand Prix in the season.

I would get my tickets from http://www.circuitcat.com/ingles/index.asp if I decide to go.

edit: I wouldn't use that link to buy tickets. They won't send you the tickets.

Actually I bought into a packaged deal of a Swiss Grand Prix tours organizer (if you really care, I could dig out phone # etc). So I got their hotel in town for the weekend, the use of their bus and the tickets. I organized the rest of the trip (flying in from the States etc). The crowd on the bus was fun btw: A mix of Swiss, Austrians and Germans. Basically everybody was a Ferrari fan, but either dressed in Red or Blue. :)

Yes Anthony, this GP has really come to live. I made my plans a long time ago before there was an Alonso, but the Bask Separatists frightened me. So after the Madrid bombing I made this trip. Lots of logic in that one, I know...

Anyway, yes this GP was a sleeper and you could pick which grand stand you wanted to yourself. Not anymore. It wasn't sold out last year, but tickets were really only left on the more expensive stands. You can tell that Alonso is their boy. And by their I don't mean just Spaniard, but Catalan! They booed the Spanish anthem and had the flags and colors of Catalonia all over the place. But all in good fun, nothing to be scared about.

Ticketwise I'd go with the stand I had: First corner turn. Lots of action, at least in the supporting races and a great view of many different track parts. A bit like Brands Hatch.

Also in preparation for city sight seeing, I suggest you take a look at the old F1 GP that was held in downtown Barcelona on Mount Juich. I realized that too late and didn't get a chance to explore, but the "track" is basically still there, at least parts of it as it was on public roads. A funicular (sp?) takes you from the harbour to the top of Mount Juich from where you can stroll back down.

PS: People in hotels, restaurants etc all speak English.

PPS: Anthony, if you can, pls don't make a decision yet. There is a chance I'm going to the Budapest GP this year myself. I'll let you know in a few weeks time.

That would be the deal-clincher. Let me know as soon as you know and I'll go if you're going. I think I've persuaded my new girlfriend that a trip to a GP is what she needs as she might then understand my passion a bit! I actually asked her if she fancied a romantic weekend in Budapest. When she agreed to that I suddenly 'remembered' that the Grand Prix was on that weekend!!

    Keep me informed.

I've been to Barcelona twice, once for the race back in 2003 and then at the end of 2003 for a test session.

You can book straight through the official website at www.circuitcat.com. But I dont' know what country your in. If your British I recommend www.selectmotorracing.com where you can buy just tickets, join a tour leaving the UK by coach or get a flight in and picked up from the airport.

Any questions give me a shout.

We went to the first LMS last April in Barcelona - VERY easy! Flew into BCN, took train from airport to Barcelona Sants (main station), changed to train to Montemlo. Circuit is about a 40 minute walk from train station. I understand during F1 races there's busses from the station to the circuit. We walked to circuit, there's a cut thru in the trees just beyond an old vacant house that takes to to the gates so you don't have to go all the way around to the main entrance. There were no hotels available in Montmelo nor at the Ibis at the circuit (we didn't rent a car) so we just stayed at the Barcelo Sants (directly above the station - very nice hotel - talk about convenience - 270€ for two nights). Took train back to airport after race on Sunday, stayed at the Tryp Barcelona Aeropuerto (have own shuttle from airport-hotel-airport - very nice also 107€ Sunday night). As mentioned in a prior post using the circuit for tickets is the best way - that's how we did the LMS tickets last year - check for reduced priced tickets prior to certain dates. As with all LMS races, the entire circuit/paddock is accessible to we tried out all the stands. The one we preferred for seeing the most at one time was the area shown on the map as green B & G, the purple area just below the letter P is a good one too - there's a definite amount of elevation change through out the circuit.

We're headed back there 2 April for the beginning of the best racing series of this year - it will be the first outing for the Aston Martin LMP1 and Rik's F430!!!!

(Last April we paid 16€ each for our weekend tickets, did a comparison of all the seating areas for the F1 race - OMG what a bargin we had!!) Sure you don't want to experience the entire circuit, paddock access, driver accessability, a grid of 49 cars, a Classic Endurance Race, plus other support events and a 6 hour or 1000km race with low costs????

Just realized that this thread was from 2005!!!! oh well...if anyone desires more current info, you got it!!!
