    Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm looking into trading my '10 Cali for 10-11' 458. My Cali has 48k miles and no issues at all. Therefore, I'm not scared of higher mileage as long as it has a good service record at a Ferrari service dept. what I'm looking for from owners of 458's is are there any options that I should consider when looking for my 458? I originally was thinking of purchasing one at or below 200k but I have recently come across a couple in the 160-170k range with 25-38k miles? It not my daily driver but I do like to put miles on it and I enjoy taking 5hr business trips when weather is nice. Any insight into ownership will be appreciated!

    Matt

nope nothing material - 458s are as bullet proof as the cali - buying one with miles makes sense if you are going to drive it a bunch - and yes with 30k miles you can pay in the 160 and 170s and get a nice car....have fun

Not sure what you are looking for. As someone with a 2012 458, I can tell you this is a relatively maintenance free car. However, once out of warranty, if something were to go wrong, it will get expensive. As with anything else, it is best to start with the dealer service department and get records of the history. Mileage, as I believe you realize, is less important than how the car was used, i.e. was it rented out for one time drivers, or how it is cared for, i.e. no crashes, continuing mechanical problems, etc. This is not rocket science. Good luck. Best

i order my first F car, 458 spider. After getting advice from friends and the chat's i felt the LED steering , upgraded wheels, wheels and racing seats were my major 3 items. Have fun and good luck!

I do have to say I have carbon fiber interior now and can't take seeing one with it. I feel they could have made the interior standards a bit better. My first 458 Spider has been amazing however had several problems that were covered so far would have cost me $20k+ in less than 6 months of owning the car. Regardless, amazing car and always puts a huge smile on my face when that engine revs and exhaust kicks in.

Great info guys! I was interested in a couple 458's that I found on eBay but noticed neither one had carbon ceramic brakes. I thought those were standard?

My must haves were LED wheel , reverse camera ,warrantee and iPod adapter. The rest is just personal preference. Good luck hunting. I'm pretty sure CCBs are standard.

Definitely get the reversing camera. You will appreciate it. The other options are really all your call. CCB standard. A car with metal brakes = walk away- no need to hear the story.

Also, Hank Carpenter is a good guy to work with.

What's story with cruise control? Was it an option? Does it work in standard fashion to every other car? Do most cars have it or is it hard to find? Thanks

The car has to grab you; if you save a few grand but the car does not excite you then it is not a good deal.

How tall are you? The race seats sit a little lower, and IMO, are a bit more comfy.

I'm 6'2. So the race seats are more comfortable? Appearance only, I would think the opposit bc of how thin they are.

It's a personal preference, but I think they are slightly more comfortable. With a helmet, they give you a little bit more room. If you don't plan on tracking the car, nothing to worry about. But if you have a long torso, it might be an issue. So bring a helmet to the dealership and try both out if it is a concern.

    Race seats for comfort
    Lifter for peace of mind
LED wheel as the Tach is hard to read, especially yellow.
    Parking sensors and/or camera

    The rest is garnish.

Thanks again for all the great info. I have narrowed my search to about 8 458's that are currently for sale. I'm having a hard time deciding between red or black. If I go with red exterior I want the tan interior but if I go blk exterior I'm ok with either blk or tan. What are your thoughts?

For options: definitely the LED steering w/CF. and prefer sport seats over regular. On blk exterior I feel it needs full CF interior but with red it doesn't seem to bother me as much if it doesn't have full CF. also, sport wheels are a must as well.

Black is a menacing look but hides the lines imo. Go red and can vinyl a black roof
