I am looking to buy a TR preferably a spyder(Straman Conversion). Does anyone know if the Grigio Metallic/Red Interior 91 TR Spyder posted on Hemmings(a year ago) ever sold. If anyone on the board knows of one coming up for sale I would be much obliged. Thanks for the help.

Just make sure the car has been stiffend up. When the car is molested with the chop, a lot of strength is lost. This will lead to premature failure of a lot of drivetrain components. A lot of the spyders are cars that had some sort of major damage to the top. You can also look for one of those types. Now that it's cold, you may find a 512 that had a tree fall on the roof. Buy it cheap and chop it.
Normally I would find it profane to do such a thing to the Testarossa. But the more these cars are molested, the higher the value will go for the ones that are taken care of.
It's sad someone would chop such a perfect car. It's vulgar.

Yes. I was too late and discovered sometime ago the silver/red TR conv. had been sold. Dealer claimed they got their full asking price. The TR spider I drove had bad chassis dynamics BUT greatly improved visibility even with the top up! A convertible TR, if done right, would be a brilliant car.

Kickass pics. I have never been a ragtop kinda guy, but there is no denying the sexyness/sluttiness of those two cars. Stunning! Beautiful craftmanship and the colors are just perfect.

Spider conversion TRs look pretty awesome. I really wish Ferrari had done it to the TR to begin with. That blue Koenig spyder looks fantastic!

I even remember seeing one some time ago with a 355-like convertible top - really trick and almost looked like a production car - VERY SWEET!

slutiness aside, if there was a recent vintage "natural " spyder, it shoud have been the tr. what a great looking rag top! should have been offered by the factory.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the replies. William, as always you're a true gentleman. I will take you up on that offer if I ever do find a spyder.I actually replied with an earlier thank you note on this thread but for some reason my post was never published. I already had to change my screenname because the one I used for a year and a half suddenly for whatever reason didn't work. I also have a problem pulling up any pics that people post.

Based on the scarcity of quality built Straman Conversions though, I am actually thinking of buying a TR. Straman charged $40k for the conversion about 10 years ago, and I am not too sure what it would run today if he ever returned from his worldwide sailing excursion lol. But based on the metrics it wouldn't seem financially feasible or logical(not that logic has any place when you own an exotic) to invest that chunk of change into a car that sells for $55k.

Excelsior, do you know who bought the Grigio metallic conversion. I know they wanted $90K when it was still on the market. I never got a chance to see it in person.

Let me know if anyone knows of an 89-91 quality TR for sale.
