I bought this '87 328 early last Fall and have been going through it. So far I have replaced the timing belts and tensioners, the water pump, coolant hoses, some evaporation cannister hoses, brakes, and the A/C receiver/drier. The A/C still needs work, but at least it is charged up now.

I bought the car remotely and had it delivered. I sent to get into the passenger side today to open the fuse panel, and found out the door is jammed. It appears to be locked, and won't open. The manual lock will not push down and the inside release does nothing.

Any suggestions? Can the inner door panel be removed with the door shut? Today was actually the first day I have tried that door.

I am not at all disappointed with the car, as it looks terrific and runs great. I am learning as I go....

No, it won't come off, that said the speaker grill (early cars) Gets you in there and you need to soak down from the window slot toards the lock rod/latch terminations.

It's hard to desribe but the door key makes it all "spring up" and "spring down" somehow mechanically.
Good luck and also lifting the entire door up and off the downward stress of it's own weight, may help.

In the end, of nothing works nothing really rare or specail about the dorr panel, get out a sawzall and find a scrap one later.

The door key should push the lock rod, now if it no longer reaches the latch that's the issue.

The key will not push the door lock down and binds when you try to unlock it. I think I will need to get the door panel off, but don't know if it can be done with the door closed.

I would hate to mess up the door panel, as it is perfect.

Would a "slim jim" approach work on these cars?

Yes, there's not much lock rod protection.

Yes on a 328 I would share your reservations, about cutting a nice trim....call the teenager at Pop a Lock and have him give it a go.
You have electric locks I guess..

Do you have AAA? If so, it might be worth a call. I’m sure this wouldn’t be the first time they “broke” into a car when a person locked themselves out . . .

You could take off the door panel on the other door and have a look at the mechanism to figure out how to get the internal bits in the other door with a wire or slim jim.

Mate, pushing the knob down locks the door. Try pulling it up.

The locking "knob" is up and won't push down. I thought of the suggestion last night to take the other door panel off and see if I can determine how the system works and see if I can see how to release it. That's what I will do.

I got it o[en this morning. I used the key to cycle the locks from the driver's side a couple of times, and the door could be opened. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Glad you got it opened. So you just locked and unlocked several times with the key on the driver's door and it eventually worked? Just asking for clarification in case I ever run into a similar problem. Thanks!

My suggestion to lube it all still stands, sounds like the locking solenoid is sticking or failing, really

GREAT news, though and welcome to the family!!

Yes, using the key to lack and unlock the driver's side door several times unfroze the passenger side. It opens and closes like a dream now. I took the car our for a "shake down" run today after all of the maintenance (belts, etc., etc.) that I did. What a great machine this thing is!

People often used white lithium grease on lock mechanisms, which is bad idea, as it hardens with age.

What you may need is just take the door panel off, and get the lock works out and clean up and relube with something that won't harden . Do NOT use WD-40.

I did use white lithium grease. I have to take the door panels off anyways sometime to fix the stereo speakers and speed up the windows, and figured I would tackle it then.
