Guys, the dash lights on my '01 360 spider went out and I thought it wuld be just a bulb replacement. The gauge needles can still be dimmed and brightened, but no dash lights. the dealer (Scottsdale Ferrari) tells me that it's $4200 for a new dash cluster and that this is a common problem. Has anyone else had this problem and found an alternative to the dealer to repair??? Night driving is kinda interesting with the just the neddles going roudy round! Thanks, in advance for any help.

    Les, this completely sucks.

suggest contacting Daniel at Ricambi, he'll probably know.

$4200 for a dash cluster because the lights went out? Ouch.

want me to quietly quiz Tony?

Sadly, it is not uncommon. You really do need to go through a dealer. They'll get you a new one from FNA, and send your old one back to the mothership.

Wow!! Karma. I think Daniel at Ricambi, and he posts in the same instant as I do.

    Yikes!!

:) Dave, we were typing at the same time. In a nutshell, the 360 instrument pod problems are becoming as common as F355 header issues.... and just as expensive.

Is there any way to get a broken one for testing purposes?

In my biz we do circuit board level repair, so there's a very good chance I could have my techs look at it and figure out the problem.

If they are $4200 new (wow!) then it sounds like an opportunity to help out the community and make a few bucks doing so. But if FNA makes you send the old one back before you get a new one, then it may not work.

    Anyone got a broken one?

    And speaking of that...

There is a guy on eBay selling "dash repair services" for $500 and says they can do it in 1 day.

Still wouldn't mind seeing a bad/broken one if anyone has one they'll let go for cheap money.

Someone started a thread a few months back about working on a rebuilding process for fixing 360 dash panels.

Labcars: I don't have any experience with Scottsdale Ferrari, but I'm told by most local Ferrari owners to avoid Scottsdale Ferrari, for major work. May not help in this case, though, per Daniel's post above.

There are 2 independents locals use who are excellent. One is Alex Traverso (sp?) and the other Andy Falbo (sp?). I believe Andy is in Fountain Hills, but I think it takes longer to get an appt. with him. Post for help on the Az/SW regional forum next time before going to SF. Best of luck with your lights... I'd probably check with the repair guy on Ebay before deciding to spend $4200 at SF, if it's not too late.

Sorry Mike, I don't want to hijack this thread, but do you do repair on 348 AC/Heat/Clock ECU modules? Almost impossible to get... likely one of the last ones available NIB sold on Ebay a week or so ago for $2100. Thanks.

Have had a bad experience with them so my money no longer goes there. Suggest you contact FNA and pressure them to help you out on a problem that sound to me more due to the design than anything else. Ferrari does not want the reputation of leaving their customers in the lurch on design problems...see what they say and will do. Best of luck.

    Huh?

    348 transmissions
    355 manifolds
    sticky interior crap
    360 dash pods
    spider seat potentiometers
    360 spider hydraulic top rams
    430 sticky switches
    360 HVAC controller units
    AC ECU's
hood struts for every single F-car since the broomstick was abandoned.

I can keep going, if you'd like.

No, on a purchase of a car from Scottsdale Ferrari. The car was not serviced as represented. In the end they made most of it right through another dealership but I should not have had to go through what I went through to get them to fess up to having misrepresented the car and the service that had been performed.

I don't repair any auto specific parts, but rather my company manufactures our own not-related-to-Ferrari products, and we 'rework' (read: repair) parts that fail testing after the manufacture/assembly phase - so we're pretty good at 'fixing stuff' by diagnosing and resolving electronics problems. The only problem with something like an AC/heat/clock module is there tends to be a lot more complexity than simple lighting on a dash, so it often takes exponentially longer to track down the problem. Also, many of those modules have microcontrollers that run code, and if the controller is dead, you can't really replicate the code even though you can replace the chip. The final problem is that with a dash you can hook it up and see if the lights come on, but for a HVAC control it's often a lot more difficult to make it run while it's out of the vehicle so you can test the inputs/outputs to see when you've fixed it.

Not that it can't be done - but it may be a very long shot. What does the bad one do? I mean, what about it is broken?

To be more specific, I've owned this 348 for about 3 months. During PPI, the guy noticed the clock LCD readout would flash any time any of the AC buttons were pressed. It has some built-in diagnostics, and I haven't taken time yet to fully test it out, either with the diagnostics or just operationally. But I notice the clock flashing when it shouldn't, so the fear is that I could have a possible failure at some point.

I think I recall reading on some thread a few months ago that someone in England was repairing them, but last time I searched, I couldn't find it. Anyone else remember? Thanks for the feedback.
