My leather boot cover (for convertible top) is on its last legs. I saw one for sale on Ebay by famous tops (or something similar) in California. Does anyone have any experience with these covers or have another one they would recommend?

    Thanks much,

    Howard

I just purchased a Mondial cabrio top from Rich and Famous in California. They advertise on ebay regularly. The top appears to be good quality materials, and well made. I'm installing it this week, and I'll know more. They were fine to deal with, and so far give them a preliminary positive report.

there is also rich and famous in SoCal, don't know their work, but he carries leather or cloth covers made to order and with crome or black ferrari clips: they are on Bessemer St., Van Nuys, CA

Does anyone know the difference between Sonnendeck canvas, German canvas and leather (yes, I know leather is different from canvas
:) ). Which material was used for the original cover?

I bought a leather boot cover from Rich and Famous over the summer and am quite happy with it, especially for the price which I recall being mid $400's. This compares to an original Ferrari cover for $2,000+.

It comes with chrome tenax snaps, I put on the original Ferrari snaps (with the Horse); the only challenge is that the snap holes are not punched out, I assume to allow for fit to multiple model years, so I have to go out and buy a punch to put the snaps on.

Its not top down weather in the NE, but if I can find a picture with it on the car I will add it later.

Also good customer service by phone and quick shipment

Does yours fit smoothly and evenly along the back by the engine compartment? My boot cover - leather or naugahyde - pulls up in the back and flutters over 50mph.

I have two clips right in the middle plus the two in each corner by the engine cover. It is nice and tight. No pictures and not sure when I will have the top down now - was hoping to get out Wednesday when NY area will hit 60s but it is going to rain.

Did you put the extra clips in yourself? Was there any problem attaching the male end into the convertible top frame?
I can imagine how that would really hold the cover down better. I had thought of sewing a pocket along the back where I could slide in a rigid plastic strip. Of course, it could just be that I need a newer/better cover. The attached picture is about as smooth as I can mine.

I'm very curious bout the clips in the middle as well. I had posted a month or so ago asking if anyone had added them, as I was thinking of doing the same.

I am in the process of replacing most of the clips, and actually bought two machine screw threaded posts intending to replace one of the original ones in front of the engine cover that screw right into the sheet metal, and is ripping loose.

A suggestion in response to my post was to lengthen the straps that have the clips that go to the package shelf, creating a bit more slack to allow better connection at the leading edge of the engine cover. Would this extend the life of your present boot cover?

It seems like a pretty reasonable idea, although I'm waiting to see how much the top flaps now that I can get all the clips to fasten, I already replaced the one that was completely broken. The weather has been a bit wet for putting the top down, though. As a note, I haven't priced the clips from a dedicated Ferrari supplier, but the generic Tenax clips available on-line can have the black cavallino covers put on them; they just pop off the original clips with some judicious prying and push on to the new ones. My boot cover has shrunk a lot as well, it's camel leather, but if I'm really, really careful getting the top stowed properly everything fits and connects, but just barely. Keep us posted, I'm curious about your search.

I replaced the tenax snaps and posts..

    http://eagleday.stores.yahoo.net/tefage.html

The cover is supposed to be tight so I would not lengthen the straps behind the seats. Just oil and stretch your leather.
With new tenax snaps it will hold. A few in the center might help but I would hate to drill extra holes the car.

In addition, our t also has a few standard canvas snaps on the sides (I think this is OEM, but not sure)

We replaced the top recently with the help of Gianluca...here is the thread

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176744

The top is from Rich and Famous and is well made except that it was a little big in the buttresses. We are hoping that it will shrink over the winter, if not we will have to make some modifications.

Also, Rich and Famous did not send the belt straps along with the top, so I had to pay extra for those, which did not contain the non stretchable nylon material inside, so Gianluca had to remake them.

Having said that, the price was great at $600 for the top, and the quality is very good, I would expect their boot covers to be of good quality also.

German canvas will match the top material and is what the car came with. When I was in the market for a boot, I found that none came with the Tenax fasteners and that you must re-use and attach them yourself. I recommend starting with the two in back immediately ahead of the engine. The next two should be those to either side. Then go forward and then go to the two tails. Mine fit snugly except for the lack of a snap on the inside on the side. I saw one where the guy had added an elastic strap to connect to the snap on the side panel. That probably eliminated the fluttering experienced at highway speed. I was short a couple of little black horsey snaps, which I think are a nice touch over the chrome snaps. They were available from the dealer for about $15 each back in 2001.

I only bought the car two years ago and they were on it, however I have the original dryed out boot cover and that had the middle rear tenax snaps that fit the clips so I assumed this is stock. My car is a late 1986 US model. I do not have the snaps on the buttresses on the boot as the car had a new, aftermarket top put on before I got it and that top did not have the snaps on it either. The one point in that regard is that the new Boot from Rich & Famous didn't have the buttress snaps on it either so if that is something you need or want I suggest you talk to them before ordering as I suspect they could put snaps on.

    Good Luck

    What a difference!
Davebdave and Lenvo65, both of your pics show a better fitting cover. A lot more of my top is visible at the edges and the clip points of the cover. It's definitely time for a new top, not just an adjustment. One decision made.
Now, I just have to choose between canvas and leather.

Mine did not have the middle snaps. Had an old leather boot cover, found a NOS black canvas one on ebay. IMHO it looks better on the car. I did lengthenthe inside straps, works great with minimal flapping at 100+ mph
