So I had this problem some time ago and I have it again now: too many cars, not enough garage space.

Previously I had thought maybe to build a detached garage to hold up to maybe 6 cars (2x3). However, after putting in the sport court, I think I might be running low on available 'impervious surface percentage' for my lot. I was thinking maybe another approach would be to simply expand the 1x3 garage we have into maybe a 2x3 by essentially extending the back wall further back.

I suspect some of you may have looked at some of these options and may have some suggestions of people to talk to about what would be the right thing to do / contractors / companies etc. which do these sorts of things. Thoughts?

Have you considered a lift to double space without building something?

I put my new garage on part of my existing driveway. Since it was already "impervious surface" (gravel that is driven or parked upon) it was not a change to my existing and they approved it. (1400 sqft garage)

can you point me to who you used for the service? did you use a general contractor, architect, building firm as three separate things or ?? anything else you can tell me about the experience?

Not sure about Woodinville, but Bellevue, which tends to have onerous rules, has this loophole: "Detached structures such as sheds that are smaller than 200 square feet in area up to eight feet in height do not require building permits." 200 sq ft is a tight squeeze, but I've seen it work.
