I am the new owner of a 2001 360 Spider with an incredible options list. Blue Pozzi over white leather with blue alcantera inserts, all the CS options (seats, instruments, grills, etc.) except the TCU! It has an early version coupled with a new kevlar clutch. It shifts at high rpms like a dream but at low it slips like crazy and doesn't even fully engage on down or medium RPM upshifts. When warmed up, all gears grind a bit going in. Sloppy mess. High RPM is solid and on point, no grinding.

So, in my reading through various threads on this forum, there are some suppliers/programmers offering updated late model TCUs and even original CS TCUs. Please opine on where I can get one of these. The rumors of kevlar wreaking havoc on cars with the earlier TCUs is true and I need an update before I kill this clutch and syncros.

PS, my PIS Is set at 5.8mm and the degredation index is at 15K and cannot be adjusted with the SD2/SD3.

Also, if anyone can give me instructions on the manual way to adjust the clutch that would be great. I believe it was a sequence of actions in the drivers seat that was designed to start the learning process but never was that effective. At this point anything would help.

    Thank you!

You gotta post some pics of the car. Color and interior specs are super interesting. Sounds beautiful

Sounds like a beautiful 360. Something is clearly amiss with your car. Simply having the early TCU would not account for slipping and grinding. I have a '99 with the original TCU and have no such problems even now with the current clutch reading at 25% life left. It may have something to do with the kevlar disc (usually not recommended for our cars) and the PIS setting. More knowledgeable folks here can chime in with specifics.

The slight grind is because the clutch is a new kevlar clutch and the PIS is set at 5.8 via factory spec. I was able to read the parameters in the SD but not able to adjust. Not even deg values, which are at 15K! With those numbers the clutch won't fully engage in time for the shifts. Another item which may be an issue is the EV clutch solenoid is bleeding at 127 cc/min. So I'll be changing that out at the same time as the TCU. Ultimately, if the clutch solenoid valve won't push enough fluid to the clutch in time to move the discs which are already too far from the flywheel, you'll get gears engaging before the clutch. Another thing to point out is that if I overheat the clutch (overslip, which is VERY common on kevlar clutches with the old TCUs) the gears operate smoothly, which indicates that the clutch material is stickier at temp allowing it to operate more effectively at that PIS. Either way the two remedies I mentioned should solve the issue. We'll see.

Fortunately, I have fully flushed and changed my gearbox fluid twice in the last 2K miles and there is zero signs of material, shavings, etc. Yes, I do drive this car daily lol.
