hello all, Since I've got the HRE's back in late 2012, i haven't changed the Nitto INVO tires i got them with it, and they've been slippy lately, so planning to change now. (their production are 2011) front are 245/35/19, rears 345/25/20 I can't really get that size except for Pirelli P Zero matching rear and front, i really don't like Pirelli cause i had them on my STi back in 2004, and they were soft for 1st year only and hard 2nd year and had to change them. and didn't like Nitto's on the Ferrari what are you suggestions? do you recommend alternative size? like 335/25/20 for the rear? How wide are your rear rims? If they are 11.5" or less, my first choice would be Michelin Pilot Supersport in 245/35R19-305/30R20 rear. Should make the car handle better with less understeer. Second choice would be Continental Extreme Contact DW in 245/35R19-335/25R20. You could also run Michelin Pilot Supersport ZP or Micheline Sport Cup 2 ZP in 245/35R19-335/25R20.
it's 12" wide on rears..305 or 325 might be too narrow.. as you can see the sidewall of INVO 345 is just perfect... i thought maybe PSS 335/25/20 might have a good sidewall to cover it as INVO 345 any tire expert can check both tires specs and advice?!
Pilot super sports are not that good. With the amount of mileage most Ferrari guys drive, why not get the best tires? For that size it's Michelin Sports Cup 2.
Off tire rack on : Warning: Pilot Sport Cup 2 radials meet DOT requirements, however they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions. This is especially true of shaved or worn tires. And like other Streetable Track & Competition tires, these tires are not intended to be stored, serviced nor driven in near- or below freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. The description also says they are the OEM tires on the 458 Especial.
Andrie- Really bad advice. The Michelin Pilot Super Sports are the best street tires for Ferraris out there. The Sport Cup 2s are very specialized, mostly for track use and occasional street use and will be scary in the wet or when it gets cold. Yes, I know the Z7 has them.
I drove both in the rain and the pilot super sports are not superior in the rain given same tread. Actually the Sport Cup 2 was superior in the rain. I was as surprise, thus the recommendation and I promptly sold my super sport
Wet is alright, I would not say superior to PSS' though. When driving on cold Cup2s in the rain it's definitely like ice skating. My rear kicked out on an uphill, standstill red light, in downpour. My tire pressures at the time were 28 front, 29 rear, so I knew they were cold. Before I could even react, the rear kicked out from under me and my driver's side rear HRE "kissed" the center concrete curb and because it was an uphill san francisco slope, the car grinded backwards, before it could go forward. Wheel was toast. $2,100 silly mistake. cold cups in the wet, and typical road grease/oils coming to the surface from fresh rain so be careful... The guy is in Bahrain though...I doubt he needs to worry about that. I'd say Cup2s too and 325 is amply sufficient. You don't need any more understeer from wider rears in a car that came out of the factory already quite understeery
I've got the same HRE wheels on my 430...I believe you have the HRE P47's? Fronts are 20"x9" and rears are 20"x12". I have the MPSS on them with 245's on the fronts and 325's on the rears. No issues with the width or grip, although I don't usually drive in the rain and sometimes, I even drive like grandma..... . Cheers FN
325's will fit rims up to 12.5" wide and so will the 335's. If you think the sidewall of the 345 is perfect, I'd think you'd be disappointing with the 325. The sidewall is 8 mm shorter, so that is definitely noticeable.
I'd agree here. I drove our MPSS fittet 458 Spider back to back with a friends MPSC2 458 Speciale and they were completely different. A lot more sketchy and slippery than the MPSS. You are the first person I hear say that. The only others I have seen not liking the MPSS have been people running Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 thinking they ran MPSS. Your experience simply don't add up with my personal experiences and any other I've herd of. Even Michelin says it's more of a dry track tyre. Terry is pretty much spot on. It's about the best tyre for any sportscar out there currently.
Michelin no longer makes the PS A/S 3. The new version has a different tread pattern and is denominated Pilot Sport A/S 3+
+1 I hated the mich ps, they consistently triggered ABS under hard braking and did not provide the level of grip I wanted. They are crappy if you really drive the car. Love the sc2 very good except in below 40 deg and hard rain, but that is not weather I drive this car in, it is fine for an experienced driver.
Big difference between Pilot Super Sports and Pilot Sports. The MPSS tires have consistently won all the comparison tests with other ultra performance tires. The Sport Cup 2s, though, are definitely the ultimate performance tires for dry weather and warm conditions if wear is not an issue.
Exactly. People need to stop critizicing the MPSS and compare them to the old variants i.e Michelin Pilot Sport and Pilot Sport PS2. The MPSS is nothing like the Pilot Sport or Pilot Sport 2. 10 years ago, I had Pilot Sport 2's on an RS6, and for the time they were the best. Now it's a different ballgame and the MPSS is king, and far beyond the Pilot Sport 2 in every way.
+1 on the MPSS tires. I have them on my 430, my 911, and my son's Saab Viggen. I used PS2s and PSs in the past, and the PSSs are a quantum leap ahead. And they wear like iron. Do not even think of DOT race replica tires except for track days... And even there, you'd be better off with real slicks you put on once you reach the track. The PSSs are noticeably better than their competitors from Pirelli and Yokohama. Buy 'em before the price goes up...,and check out Americas Tire/ Tire Discount- they were far cheaper than Tire Rack a few months ago.
Yes on the MPSS. They don't come in the OEM sizes for the stock 18" wheels, but the OP has aftermarket 19" and 20". I know this has been covered elsewhere but anyone remember what sizes fit OEM 18" starfish wheels, yet clear fenders and don't cause ABS issues?
I actually don't know the offset. But wheels Boutique set me up.. After I fitted them, when I asked them, they said it's written at the back of the wheels. I haven't opened them since I put them on 😀 You can ask Ben from WB No rubbing issue at all.. although my car is lowered by 1" too I think I will go with 335/25 PSS
