    Guys

I have got the itch again and I am considering a very clean 89 328 GTB, Red/Tan 4300miles. Its on consignment with a Fdealer. Its listed at $60k but needs the major. Salesman says it needs about $5k to get it where it should be mechanically. I think I can get it for $55k before service.

Also as I already own a 355 do you think it would be somewhat redundant adding a 328 to the mix?

What do you guys think? thanks

Looks like you have the 355 berlinetta and a 456... two closed cars. Personal preference here, but maybe a GTS would be a nice change?

I don't own a 355, so I'll defer to others on the difference. But in general everything that came after the 328 was very different in terms of "rawness".

$55K sounds very fair assuming you can put $5K into it and be done. If the car has really been sitting around that much for 17 years, I don't know if I believe $5K will do it. However an '89 328 at $60K sounds about right, and the low miles (depending on how the mechanical bits have survived storage) could be a bonus.

Good suggestion on the GTS but I am definately more a GTB person. I just like the lines alot better on coupe's in general. Although the GTS does not give up much I still think the GTB looks better.

BTW Love your super clean Black GTS. Congratulations!

I have seen this GTB. Its a very very nice car. The sale person I spoke to was Stephen Daley; I was also told that the previous owner was a customer of the dealer too. I think that this car is well known by this dealer. In fact, maybe they have the previous service visits on file. Check it out.
    I'm looking for a GTS.

Sounds like a pretty fair deal to me. I think RareUSGold will tell you that there is strong demand for that particular car and you should snap it up quick!

    Brian,

Sounds like a good find. The clean, uninterrupted lines of the berlinetta is as sexy as it gets. There aren't many US 328 GTBs around and they don't come up for sale too often - the proverbial "hen's teeth". I say move fast and go for it!

I am not surprised. 60K is a good deal, even needing service. I hope he chimes in, would like to add the vin# to our registry and welcome him to the small world of 328 GTB owners.

FWIW, I have seen this car in person, and can vouch for its spectacular condition. It's hard to imagine a more careful and scrupulous owner than Mark (and he's a heck of a nice guy to boot!).

Thanks Bill, There is indeed a strong demand for the GTB especially the 1989's. I believe the person that owned the car looked for a long time to find one. Only to find that it was not a good fit (physically) for him. It is a really nice clean car with low milage. I think it is a really fair deal in the $60 to $65 Range including the service. You are looking around $3500+ for the major service done right.

The 89's are the most desirable of the 328's and there are only about 35 of the 1989 328 GTB's made (U. S. Models). So I think the rarity of the car is really overlooked. My car has almost 7000 mile. I was offered considerably more than the range that I suggested, but I turned down the offer I love my car and I am sure you will too. I think once a few more end up in a perminant collection the value will also increase. I also belive that your car has the deleted Wing. Some people like that some don't but it does make it a little differed than others that are out there.

    Good Luck
    Rich

Hi guys….I am the owner of this wonderful 1989 328 GTB. ‘rareusgold’ is correct that I bought the 328 GTB last month and that I am too tall for it…..at 6’ 3” tall I need a few more inches head room than I currently have. This 328 is beautiful and original and some folks here on fChat has seen the 328 in person before I bought it and can talk to the condition of this GTB. I will be selling the 328 in the near future. I have been waiting for it to stop raining here in ‘sunny California’ for two weeks now so I can get some decent pictures of the 328 before I place it back on the market.

I am also having the major service done this week, which will take 10 days. I am also placing a brand new set of tires on the 328 before I sell it as it still has the original factory tires on it with 90% tread wear left. I am having the service done at Valtellina Automobile here in Sausalito. They work on a lot of the high end Ferraris around Mill Valley (where I live), Sausalito and Marin County. Their web site is at: http://www.valtellina-automobili.com/main_1.htm The Service includes:

    • Replace timing belt, tensioner assembly & both idler bearings.
    • Adjust the valves; replace valve cover gaskets & cam oil seals.
    • Replace all V-belts.
    • Replace all filters.
    • Replace engine & gearbox oil.
    • Replace spark plugs, inspect & test cap / rotor / wires, replace if required.
    • Flush the cooling & brake systems.
    • Re-build the water pump.
    • Inspect brakes, shocks, tires, suspension bushings & all cooling / fuel lines.
    • Full detail.

It takes around a solid 32 hours to do a proper job as listed. That is 32 x $120 = $3840. The parts are around $1700. Plus another $300 for oil coolant / other material. So the price of the service is estimated at $5,840

the 328 has 4,300 original miles and has been an investment for the previous owner for the last 15 years.....so he never drove it or changed the belts or had a major service done etc for the last 15 years. He did oil changes though and spark plug changes every so often. As I am a big believer in having the 328 in 100% proper running order I am sparing no expense in the service.

I can guarantee I have one of the best low mileage 328 GTBs out there anywhere in the USA. I have been over every inch of this car and it is in fabulous shape. No rock chips, no scratches, no dents, no wear and tear at all. The interior is like new from the factory with no wear on the carpets, no wear on the seats etc.....I also ordered a brand new set of custom fit floor mats (they will be delivered this week) as I wanted to protect the original mats and carpets for anyone that drives it. I also ordered a custom "Noah" car cover made just for the 328. I love the 328 with the factory delete rear spoiler.....the lines are so smooth. I always thought the spoiler looked dated and did not add to the 328.....most Euro models have no spolier as well.....I think when folks see the pictures with no rear spolier they will be very pleased. I also have the letter from Ferrari indicating this GTB came from the factory with no rear spoiler as it was an option in Europe but not the US market. I probablyt have the only 1989 GTB in the USA with no rear spoiler from the factory as it was special ordered that way. The spoiler adds no value to the 328 performance wise.

The price I am asking is:
    * $65K before the service or
    * $71K after the service is complete.

As I am sending in the 328 this Thursday for its service I doubt anyone will buy it before then….plus, I have not even placed the 328 on the market yet…..just some folks know here on fChat know that I wish to sell the 328 due to my tall size. I wil officially place the GTB on the market at begining of May after the Major service is complete...I am in no rush to sell it.
