A friend suggested I join this forum to find a trusted shop to inspect the private party 456 I'm looking at. The car and I reside in the east bay area near San Francisco. Unless coached otherwise by your collective wisdom, I'd prefer an independent shop to a dealer. This would be my first Ferrari, so maybe you'll tell me that the dealer experience will be better than what I'm used to. Up till now I've done all my own service and modification work short of welding and engine machining.

I'm going to do some surfing and FAQ-reading now, but if there's a particular place I should look for 456 buyer-beware info, please advise. For example, I've heard that window seal is a common problem and that there is more than one solution out there, but I have not learned what to look for with respect to the seals when inspecting a car. Can I tell if a solution was attempted? Stuff like that.

    Thanks!

    Jeff

    Jeff,

You found the right place, and being a 456 the overwhelming advice would be to go through the threads in this section very, very thoroughly.

The 456 can have a collection of surprises all of which have been extensively discussed here.

    You best be well advised.

    BTW, welcome to the board.
