The wife has a hankering for Chinese food. So, I'd like to surprise her with dinner at a good place in the DFW area, maybe in a week or so once her big project deadline at work is past. Fancy, hole in the wall joint, or anything in between. Recommendations welcome...T

There are some good places in DFW. My favorites are Kings Noodles in Richardson and First Chinese BBQ, both are kinda hole in the wall but very good, and cash only. Another if you like spicy is a Schzewan place (can't remember the full name) that's down the street from Kings off Main St and Beltline in Richardson...Jeng Chi is in the same plaza which is good too. These are all very very different from PF Changs ;)

Wife's not big on spicy, but Kings and Jeng Chi look great. Thank you...T

I'll echo First Chinese bbq as one of my favorites. It's authentic - as in the kind of place you see the roast whole duck hanging in the window - but very good and their menu choices range from the generic beef broccoli to some pretty strange stuff.

That said, there are a lot of very good places along that Greenville Ave. corridor from Belt Line to Arapaho-ish.

Wife and I finally had time to go to Jeng Chi tonight. Funny enough, we'd been to that shopping center before! We had dinner a few years back at Caravelle, which is a few doors down, with our doc & her hubby. Anyway, the food was great. Thanks all! We enjoyed it much.

Wife and I shared the juicy and steamed dumplings (xiao long bao) and orange beef, along with a pot of jasmine tea. The orange beef had good chew (almost like pipikaula beef, if you've tried that Hawaiian dish) and just the right amount of breading. The XLB were tasty with the accompanying flavored vinegar and a splash of red chili sauce. Highly recommended.

Thank you, again, everyone. I hope we can hit the other places suggested some day...T

You've got to try Yao Fuzi in Plano. It's by Park/Preston and constantly rated one of the best Chinese restaurants on D Magazine.

Funny you should mention it. I just Yelp'd "Dim Sum" and Royal China was one of the top hits for Dallas!
Thank you. Hope your Christmas was a great one.
