the 3x8 serie is aging and it's becoming a vintage car. Even the 328, the last model, is 31 years old.

That means you have to start looking at it as a vintage car and no more as a preowned Ferrari: please read what there is in my signature, as maybe it's starting to be the correct way to look at a 328 today and in the future.

Otherwise it's better to buy a faster, safer, more comfortable and much more modern car: why not.

    Mike,

Funny you mention this. I was just thinking the same thing about my 3.2 Carrera yesterday ;) When we bought the 308 over a year ago it was a bit of a dog. It needed engine work and the interior was a bit ratty. It spent quite a while in the shop and i have been sorting the interior. It is really coming along and i have developed a relationship with all this time invested. As for the carrera, it also needed a bunch of tlc so we bonded over that and i put 15K miles on it in the last few years. Now the Ferrari is moving up and i have been wondering about Carrera. My solution was to spend some time detailing the car and going for a drive. For me, it is like any other relationship... If I'm feeling a bit distant i just focus on that for a bit and i can better judge my feelings. Decisions based on older memories are not as good as those based on newer ones for me.

Good luck on your decision. For me, the Carrera is safe and sound in the garage just above the 308 :)

Actually I have the exact opposite impulses. Most of the winter is spent noodling about "is this the year I sell the 308?" Then Spring comes, I take a ride and when back in the garage I just sit there and take it all in and think; "I will never sell this car!"

I have to admit that I get the same feeling every once in a while. Then I take it for a cruise at night, with the pop-up headlights going and little traffic on the roads. For some reason I enjoy the car so much more at night, and that's when I always say "there's no way I can sell this car."

Maybe give it a try. :)

If you did not write that you must attribute it to the author.

If you did then "te salut, Don Corleone" because that is the best description of the 308 experience I have ever read and probably ever will.

To the OP: trade up to a 512 for a few years, then something more modern like a 550 three peddle, then to flappy paddle, then to... just like women.

I also gain a tremendous amount of satisfaction working on the car. That combined with driving it is very fulfilling. If I was just driving it I would probably not own it.

There is always another car that will catch your eye. The trick is to buy it without selling the 328. Then when you have both, sell one. Or maybe keep both.
Over the years, I have ended up with 5 cars. None are for sell. And in retrospect, I wish I had kept several other cars from my past... 64 Pontiac GTO, 73 Pantera, 47 Bentley, and a 58 XK150S Jaguar.... It just proves the old adage, " The problem is not too many cars, it's not enough garage space".

That is quite the complement. Thank you.

I am the author although I was paraphrasing myself from an article of mine regarding 308 ownership published in Roundel magazine in April 2014. Roundel is the magazine of the BMW (!) Car Club of America.

I am not a journalist; I just scribble words occasionally and hope someone is interested in them. Never been paid for it.

My thought is if you're bored with the car it's time to sell and find something else that excites you, whether it's another Ferrari or something else. Most sports cars I have purchased I have bought thinking "I'll never sell this one." In reality, I've sold nearly every one after a few years and replaced it with another car, and there's nothing wrong with that. Life is short. You should drive something that excites you. If the 308 isn't it, it's time for it to go to someone who will be excited about it.
