I removed my twin distributors for cam seal change out and valve adjustment.
After reading the manual prior to removal I figured setting them back up once the cams were in would be no issue. However, a few months down the road I now see that the marks on my flywheel are different than those stated in the manual.

I am using the GT4 manual that everyone on this site links to when the "does anyone have a GT4 manual?" question comes up.

The manual states that to set the rear distributor turn the flywheel to the +6 degree mark with cylinder #1 on compression and install distributor with the rotor aligned with the #1 plug wire in the cap. However - my flywheel has a +7 degree mark.
I did a search, and read that for 1978 and later GT4's the procedure was changed. But to what is the questions - what I have read is conflicting, so I will not regurgitate it here.

Right now I set it to the +7 mark with #1 on compression and the rotor at the #1 wire. That may even get the engine started, but what about the front dizzy, and more important, what do I set the timing to once it is running and I put a timing light on it.

I have the electronic ignition that was standard on the 79 cars - no points.

    Help!

You are good for the 1-4 bank. The 5-8 bank needs to be set the same way, only the crank needs to be turned so the 7 degree mark for the 5-8 bank is lined up and then the corresponding distributor installed at the correct marking on the distributor.

I was going to do the front dizzy tonight. I turned the engine until the cylinder across from #1 (the cylinder next to the A/C compressor) came up on compression. There was a green mark there and what looked like something punched there, but I could not make it out.

I then looked using a mirror as I realized that the cylinders on bank 5-8 are numbered opposite. So which cylinder do I use for the front back - the one closest to the distributor, or the one at the other end (the A/C compressor end.)???

I had other stuff to do, so I left it uninstalled tonight...
