I am doing a project for a friend - I have taken apart a 1/18 Hotwheels 360 Modena Spider (scaglietti - rims, racing seats, black-painted rear panel) and am gonig to paint it TdF Blue. I am having trouble getting the seats out.

I have another 360 Modena Spider (silver w/ red interior) that I am going to swap seats with. I need the Daytona seats out of the silver model.

I am going for a match to a friend's car. He has the Daytona seats w/ the scaglietti rims. It will look wrong with the wrong seats. I am reluctant to pry too hard.

Anybody have any experience with Hotwheels seat removal?

Any help would be much appreciated. Also, I am planning on putting Testers paint thru an airbrush to apply the TdF Blue. Any thoughts on getting the best finish possible and minimizing tiny hairs and such getting stuck in the drying process?

I am suprised nobody responded to my question. Am I a pioneer in this field? I have gleaned some good info from this site and will be posting pics of my project.

Look for a TdF Blue 360 Spider w/ Beige interior - 1/18 scale.

There are few problems with your project/ideas.
The seats are glued with something similar to hot glue but stronger. The problem here comes from the materials used. The seats are made from some very soft material wich is more like ruber. The floor of the interior(in fact the whole interior tub is made from some incredibly brittle plastic.Combine the glue with these materials and you get great chance of cracking or breaking the floor and ripping part of the seats. The remedy?
You have to just pry them carefully and don't worry if you brake the floor.More important is not to rip the seats. The floor can be repaired easy with sheet plastic from any hobby shop.Actually I would recommend using 040" thick sheet from "evergreen" regardless if you break the floor or not. it would raise the seats a little and make them more realistic.I would also check a material called "fuzzy fur" also found in most hobby shops. It comes in pretty much any color and is the best way to simulate carpeting. It is very easy to apply and adds a ton of realism .
Now about the paint.I would use the silver spider for the base since you want to apply blue metallic paint.I have modified a number of diecasts and I found that you can find pretty much any color in a automotive touch-up spray can.Duply-color would be my choice.Same for the clear cote.Primer?..Tamiya grey primer for plastic and metal.Again any hobby shop should be able to get you a can.Why all this?...
a)tamiya primer-extremely forgiving, fast drying and easy to sand. Also it is laquer based and it would handle anything you spray on it.
b)automotive spray cans-very forgiving extremely fast drying and most important hard as nails when dry.Why is this so important?...Because AFTER the clear coat(never sand metallic colors before clear)all you have to do is whet-sand it with 1500 grit sandpaper and then rub it out and wax it and you are going to have a finish that is going to last forever and look fabulous.
Testors paints are enamels(very soft and slow drying)and they can not handle laquer clear.Testors clear gets yellow with time wich will alter your color with time.
However testors(model master) paints are probably the best choice for the interiors.Use the flat or gloss finishes and then just cover them with "dull cote".
Hope this will help you some.I'll add some pics some other time.

Thank you for the response. I really appreciate your input. The testors paints are out. I will get the stuff you suggested. I will be sure and post the results. As for seat removal, I gave up before I broke it and bought a "parts car". Another 360 Spider with the right seats/wrong wheels. The wheel swap should be much easier. Both models are red, so one will still have to be painted.

Attached are pics of the car I am modeling.

    Thanks again.

    Nice ride!
The closest thing as far as color goes to the seats of the car in the picture would be A "model masters" spray can by testors called affrica mustard wich is a military color(not sure if it is flat or gloss but it doesn't really matter). The canvas top of the car is "blue angels blue" also in a model masters can wich I think is more glossy but again no worries.I can't really tell if the inserts in the seats are the same color as the top or if they are black.if they are black paint them with flat black if not just use the blue angels blue sprayed in the can's cap and then detail the seats with a brush.Same goes for the dash/doors.After you are done spray over everything with model masters "dull cote".It will create the "leather effect".When dry to the touch you can rub you finger on the surface of the seats and it will create the slightly glossier effect of "used leather".For the top, after you paint it spray it with "clear flat" by Testors.Good luck and keep me posted.
I tried to upload some pictures for you of some cool custom work but they are with too high of resolution.

Here is a picture of a TDF Blue model that we did for a car owner. His had a regular seats, not daytona. Second picture are the seats that you need.
