Hello, I have a 1991 348 and noticed yesterday that I have alot of swirl marks in my paint. It was very bright out and in direct sunlight it looked horrible. Is there any way to get rid of them. I tried a porter cale buffing machine and it helped, but did not take them out all the way. Any suggestions without getting crazy?

I would get a professional detailer with a good record to fix it.

And then do proper washing and waxing techniques to prevent them from happening again in the future.

is there the cliff notes version of these techniques somewhere? I'm getting a professional detail tomorrow, and want to keep it looking new after, but all the posts I've seen are like an encyclopedia....I need the dummies version :)

UserID Tropicaldetail has covered a lot of this in recent months, mostly in the Ferrari Discussion forum. He seems to be a true professional expert and artist in this field. Here's a link to search for his threads..

I had a diablo in with the same problem. I ended up doing a 4 stage buffing process to get it out. Well worth to have a professional detailer to fix it.

    Marc, Marc, dude!

Do it yourself. You can use a decent wash, like Maguires or Mothers. Polish with HD Cleanse from Zymol. Finish with a few coats of Zymol or Griott's carnuba wax. Apply with your hands. Zymol is removed before it dries with a clean T-Shirt and Griott's is removed after it dries to a hazy white powder. If you feel the need to go further, there is wheel polish and fiberglass polish for those parts of your ride. Just dedicate an afternoon. Wash the car, drive it down the block and do a few 360's to spin off the water. Dry iit off and let it sit for an hour or 2. Then attack it with the Zymol or Griott's products.

The swirl is aged wax residue and you need to take it off before applying the new wax.

BTW, the best glass cleaner in the world is hot, hot water (like you can barely stand it) with 1-2 drops of dishwashing soap in per gallon (holds the dirt in suspension). Apply with a wash cloth dipped and wrung out. Do small areas, interior first. Dry immediately with no-lint terry cloth. Change the water when it looks hazy. I do all the interiors, change water then do the exteriors. If you feel you must use chemicals, try mxing up your own alcohol and distilled water mixture 1-3 I think. It's not necessary and it will eventually dry out the trim rubber.
