Hey Guys i am looking at coming to Chicago the last weekend of February to see my son who is in the Navy. I would like to stay downtown at a nice Hotel, i am on a budget not cheap but not beyond my means. I just need some advice on a decent hotel downtown to stay at. So any help would be great.

I want to hang out with my son and take him to a good steak house and just have some fun.

    Sid,

You'll get a variety of suggestions--hopefully you'll be able to take advantage of a slow time of year and get a good deal. There is no "secret" when finding lodging in the city, it's all about location and you usually pay for it. Check out sites like www.hotels.com and see what kind of bargains there are. You'll want to stay close to Michigan Avenue most likely unless you decide to stay closer to your son and commute downtown.

    Depending on your budget . . .

You'll want to stay at either the Trump or the Peninsula. . . .

Both have excellent amenities, - and amazing service.

You can walk to several restaurants from each...

Yes I have. Not a bad hotel, was there over Thanksgiving weekend a few months back.

Trump is a great hotel the be in, one of the best views in the city. A little pricier than Hard Rock and others though.

The Hard Rock is a great location, right on Michigan, about 2 blocks from the river and the start of the Magnificent Mile, right next to Millennium Park. Most of the big restaurants are on the north side of the river, but that would be a pretty easy walk as long as its not snowing. I live about a block from there and know the area a little bit.

I'm not familiar with the hotel but there is a great restaurant about eight(?) blocks South call The Firehouse. Great food, friendly servers, and a welcoming atmosphere. While not cheap, I don't think they are out of line. The tab for my wife and I (including one bottle of wine and tip) is usually around $250. Many people will tell you to go to Gibsons on Rush Street (I believe you also said you were looking for a steak place). While Gibsons is not bad and has hosted some very impressive and powerful people, including several Presidents, Gene and Georgetti's is a steak place second to none and they will treat you far better. They are about eleven blocks North and eight blocks East of your hotel. God Bless and I hope you and your son have a great time.
