This is what I've heard from F1 commentary on Speed TV during races:

Toyota spends over $1 Billion (yes, a B) a year.

    Ferrari spends about $600 million.

Michael Schumacher gets paid $45 million a year.

David Coulthard will be making $500,000 a year with Red Bull with something like a $50,000 bonus per point he gets.

Some driver for Minardi paid Minardi rougly $1 million to drive. He raised money from his country so he didn't pay all of it himself.

I think Minardi's budget is somewhere between $20-$40 million, I'm not sure.

The FIA requires a $48 million application fee for a new team to apply. This fee will be returned if the application is refused. If the application is accepted, the money will be returned in 12 installments (monthly, including interest) after the first race in which the team competes.

LOL! That's tremendous. Bernie should keep in mind that there will come a time when he just might actually have to rely on some bankers for his business, the kind of bankers he seems to enjoy screwing with right now.

    For ChampCar:

Cost: $2-3 million to put a car on the track with a mid-pack team
    $6m for Forsythe Racing
Drivers get paid anywhere from winnings only to about $1m/yr
Limited testing days encourage teams to run multiple drivers so they can get the most data out of the cars

The Chapter 11 proceedings of CART is an interesting story.
